Watching top gear last night - unbelieveable.

I thought this was one of the best episodes I\'d seen so far (Although I heard the camper-van episode was a good one)

Here\'s the youtube link:

Well that\'s just... fascinating. They go into a place they KNOW is full of retards (Not to say all Alabamans are bigots or ign\'ant), and they deliberately antagonize them? Isthissupposed to be some kind of \"reality TV\"?

No - it\'s a UK car show called \"Top gear\".
They sometimes have challenges - that particular episode\'s challenge was to:

See if it was cheaper to buy a car whilst on holiday in the US and then sell it back - Compared to renting.

Along the way they had various tasks - amongst them to only eat \"what they found on the side of the road\"

Leading to one of the most hilarious scenes where Jeremy Clarkson arrives at the campsite... With a dead cow strapped to his roof.

Which is why he has so many air fresheners and why the car \"smells of cow\"

watched this at the time, and was funny, but there shows are always very contrived.

For our American cousins, this maybe something that contributes to our perceptions of the US!!!

It was very funny though..........\"man-love for all!\" lollol

@NSA... Personal experience talking here...? :)
lol

I know a lot of Americans and most of them are at least as smart as anyone I know here in the UK or anywhere else - Hell I even have American family... But Watching that episode really DID show some of the very worst sides of the US :(

I imagine it was edited as such, but unfortunately you get people like that in any country :(

You have to wonder how many hints Richard \"The Hamster\" Hammond needs...

1. Strap him in a rocket car and keep shooting him up a track until it crashes at x million miles an hour

2. Force him to drive into a river full of alligators

3. The whole brokeback/manlove truck in \"Hicksville\" escapade

Not to mention having him deliberately struck by man-made lightning in an earlier series.

Richard, these people are NOT your friends!!!

No, it\'s supposed to be a car show, but they sort of forgot about that as Jeremy Clarkson\'s ego grew. Top Gear is basically Big Brother style entertainment for Daily Mail readers. \'Reality\' TV, presented in a car show styled wrapping that is pretty much just a chance for us to hear Clarkson spout his personal opinions.

Have to agree with that somewhat, gone from a car show with a twist to an entertainment show with cars occasionally. A lot more noticeable this season.

However, I for one don\'t care, as the show is simply fantastic. Perhaps because I like a grumble very much along the lines of Clarkson as well as a good bit of craic and a pish take so the show is just my cup of tea. (Some folk can\'t handle a bit of toungue in cheek humour admittedly)

Every scene in that had me in hysterics bar seeing the devestation at the end, though it wasn\'t too shocking. (A bomb gutted the centre of my home town and even that took a couple of years to fix, let alone an entire city devesated).

Anyway, big fan here and in my view the best episode yet. :)

I never used to watch Top Gear when it was \"just a car show\" as I had no interest in listening to anoraks drone on about shiny machines I\'d never be able to afford. Now it\'s more of a televised lad\'s mag with cars instead of girls. Most of the entertainment comes from the great relationship between the hosts (even when they\'re determined to kill one ;) ) and their blatant disrespect for caravans lol personally, I love it now

 Top Gear is basically Big Brother style? Eh? You\'ve either never seen Top Gear or you\'ve never seen Big Brother. There\'s no similarity at all.

Top Gear is a great show. Clarkson, Hammond and May crack me up. Some of their stunts are pure comedy... long may it continue.

I have to admit I would rather watch Top Gear than even consider watching that drivle called Big Brother with a bunch of wannabes on it.

No, not Big Brother style - I\'m not saying the shows are similar. But it is Big Brother style entertainment, as in the purpose isn\'t to educate and inform, it is to entertain the audience with the extreme personality traits of the people featured on it. In Big Brother\'s case it would be fairly unintelligent individuals and their generally offensive outlook and opinions on life, in Top Gear\'s case fairly intelligent individuals and their generally offensive outlook and opinions on life!

In fairness I don\'t actually mind Hammond and May is OK too I guess, but they are chums with Clarkson, so they must have something wrong with them. I truly detest him you see. He was entertaining at first, but as his fame has grown so has his head. Clarkson is like the drunk bigoted uncle who I try and avoid at family parties, so a program that showcases his opinions and attitude isn\'t really something that appeals to me.

Fair enough but, bearing in mind how political correctness has gotten so ridiculously out of proportion now, I think it\'s important to have people like Jeremy Clarkson around to stand up for freedom of thought/speech/action whether you agree with what he says and does or not. Plus, some of us find it quite funny too.

I have briefly met him when I worked at the BBC actually. Had forgotten that! Not an in depth or long meeting, but he was pretty similar to his on screen persona from what I saw of him.

But I do agree, whilst I don\'t like what I see of him on Top Gear yes, it is good that not everyone on TV is obsessing about being PC. And I have no issue with others liking him. For me he\'s like fingers raking down a blackboard though.

Well, ain\'t that mighty damn benevolent of you.

You know, one of the true measures of ignorance in a person is if they watch the drivel on TV and think that it in ANY way relates to reality.

Here Dauber goes again, blasting someone of being ignorant.

\"Ignorant may mean knowing little or nothing, or it may mean uninformed about a particular subject\"

So he may just be uninforemed because he has never been to America and only has TV/films to base it on. Thats all I have, and peoples views on here.
So if he is so ignorant Dauber, why not try and explain to us the reality of it all. Because i must be just as ignorant, if not more because i have no American friends or family.

I\'ve never been to England either, but I know enough to not think that old Robin Hood movies or episodes of Monty Python accurately portray what life is really like there. What exactly did you want me to explain? That not everyone that speaks with a Southern accent is retarded or in-bred? That not all Americans wander the streets with guns like in an old Western? That you Brits are really not inherantly better than everyone else in the world? Sorry, I\'ve got better things to do with my time.

Its just you come on and brand people of being ignorant if they don\'t fully understand something, which they are according to dictionary defination, but you say it as if you know the lot. I remember the last time it was something about the ignorance of youth aimed at orkydave.

You must have some sort of idea what England is like based on films and things you have heard.
OK so maybe not every American walks round with a gun, but from what iv heard, it sounds like it.
Does that make me ignorant though?
