CRAZY CRAZY idea... I blame Brainiac

I had a stupid, insane, and possibly life-threatening idea ...

For those figures where you might want a flame effect... Ie. Flaming daemon-sword etc

Now, for the next part, I need input from some one knowledgable in Chemistry and elements, etc.

So - is there some sort of (Preferably safe - non toxic/not carcinogenic lol) element that combusts at room temperature, but doesn\'t reach a heat level that would damage the mini or paint...?

It\'s a CRAZY idea... But it might just set fire to your house

If a substance combust, even at room temperature, it will emit a lot of energy (the light we see) and this means it will produce heat.

Besides, all substances I can think of that combusts at room temperature are highly toxic as well!

The only things that would do as you describe without melting the mini are either illegal or insanely difficult to get your hands on. You could do it easily with a read sword, but its impossible for a mini.

I\'m FAIRLY certain there are CERTAIN elements that combust, but put out a low heat and some that are even endothermic...

But they might be ever so slightly radioactive... lol

Buit enough about the programme, the idea you\'re propagating I can only think of a couple of solutions, both of which involve highly toxic and dangerous substances.
Possible options would involve a Flourescent paint and a UV Light source to achieve the effect.

I seem to remember cyclohexene (sp?) didn\'t burn the surface, although their is lots of heat in the flames, as demonstrated by someone when I was at school putting some in a water pistol and making a flamethrower out of it.

How about disassembling a glowstick, and painting a little bit of both parts onto the blade? That\'s a bit safer than potassium or phosphorus.

Actually,

If you mix equal parts of Brandy and water it is possible to soak a £5 note in it and set fire to it, it will burn until the alcohol has all gone then the water in the paper will stop it burning,

Not sure if it will work with plastic tho mate, as it wont soak up the water,

Perhaps smear it with petroleum jelly and then dip in brandy and set it a light,

(Your on your own tho mate and i accept no responsibillity)

An alternative

ok, had to de-lurk for this one. It\'s not actual fire, but how about this.....

(Be aware that this is more work than it is probably worth, but you will still have your eyebrows when you are done. )



Create yourself a flame mold and use clear silicone or maybe even the water effects stuff you pour to fill the mold. Then drill out a main center shaft out of the fire that leads to a few smaller ones and run fiber optics through to the ends. Run the optics down through the figure into the base where you can keep the light.

Then paint the flames with transparent colors that let out the right amount of light in each area to brighten the flame.


Expensive maybe, and could end up looking cheesy too....but you get to keep your house. lol
