Does anybody know a good paint mixture for the Crimson Fist blue armour? I use GW and Vallejo Model colour. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

The recipe I use makes for a very dark blue and is as follows:

Base coat of Dark Blue (MidNight blue or Necron Abyss - GW)
Black wash in the recesses
1st Highlight - 1x Dark blue + 2x Magic Blue (Vallejo)
2nd Highlight - 1x Magic Blue + 1/2x Ghostly Grey (GW) + Touch of Dark blue
3rd Highlight - 1x Magic Blue + 2x Ghostly Grey + 1/2x Dark blue

These are thin layers that are built up rather than just 3 highlights :)

And was used on the following (I need to paint some more of these at some point)

Hope that helps.

Nice work Peteh :)

For GW colours I\'d say something like midnight blue base, then... Enchanted blue? Highlights with very small amounts of space wolves?

I haven\'t done Crimson fists, but I tend to do my Ultramarines a bit darker than usual.

im in the process of doing some ultramarines like DaN and regal blue (GW) would be a good colour - tend to start with that and has always struck as a nice main colour for crimson fists.
you could then work upto ultramarine blue for the highlight?

hope this helps...:)

Ah, very topical - I\'m struggling with this myself.

The problem I have with the GW \"official ones\" in White Dwarf is they seem very dark and there\'s low contrast between the blue and red - so to me, they look like a bunch of dark, low detail blobs.

Peteh, I really like your colors! How are you doing the red?

What Im trying so far on the blue is actually using P3 - basically I\'m doing Exile Blue base (over black primer), then using some Cygnar Blue Base to highlite (usually with exile blue in it to keep the transition from being too harsh) then a line of Cygnar Highlite. I\'m trying to do these without too many highlites to keep the (possible) army painting from taking forever :)

@Jarrett - the reds are fairly straightforward if I remember right...

Black undercoat, merchite red as the base followed by a brown ink wash into the recesses. Scab red for the first highlight, followed by a blood red highlight. Then for further highlights it was mixes of blood red with elf or dwarf flesh.

As I mentioned with the blues these were layered on with thin layers rather than just pure highlights.

@hestan101 - the black wash I used was a thinned black ink, though paint would work as well, as would the GW bedab black.

The damage was a case of putting down the shape in thinned white, then adding black or scorched brown (sometimes both depending on how deep I wanted the damage). I basically followed Cyrils glowing eyes article - http://www.coolminiornot.com/article/aid/288

I just found a Vallejo Model Colour in my paints called periscope blue. I am Going to mix in Royal blue for gradual highlights. I will let you all know how it goes, thanks for the tips everyone.
