Dead Space Hulk Hero WiP

Well it has been an age since I put brush to model or so it seems, but this weekend I have tried to put an end to this by starting one of the models from Space Hulk. The dead terminator has really got my attention and have finally taken the plunge into getting back into painting again, I wanted to paint something of my own to do this as I am so out of practice I thought it would be safer to risk my own minis rather than a commission piece.

I still have a long way to go yet but essentially this is the look of the armour I am going for, I am not going to go mad on the highlighting and shading as I want to add alot of weathering and also some battle damage which would cover over any accurate highlighting/ shading. Hope fully this won\'t take me too long, I have got the other pieces of the model undercoated and ready for painting it is just a case of keeping focus around working away from home most of the time.

I do like the look of the red, pretty smooth. Doesn\'t look like you\'re that out of practice. :)

Thanks, believe me I am very much out of practice as this is the first mini I have actually attempted to paint for a while now. @Tim the base metal is Boltgun Metal but I used alot of successive layers of Bedab Black wash and then rehighlighted the metal to get that effect. I am not done with the metal yet but won\'t do anymore until the back of the throne is in place.

The red is really well done and is very eyecatching! cant wait to see it finished. Can we expect to see the more alive space hulk terminators anytime soon?

Compliment/criticism - the red is painted VERY WELL.....the occupant is dead and gone long enough to have no skin. Weathering would look more fitting.....to me.

Is there going to be legs on him?

Thanks all yep there will be legs on him they will be painted separately as will the rear of the throne, also the weathering and damage will be added once all the armour is finished.

Nice Tim! I\'m coming back from a long break too and I\'m also painting a space marine (the new Space Wolves Njal). I\'ll race you.

Tim .... do you think some nicks in the armour would be fitting for a long dead hero?

right...it looks new....

very well done though...but not sure if brand new fits a long dead hero :D

Update will be coming soon, the trouble is I don\'t get alot of painting time these days and have to fit it around work, I have been doing more today so by the weekend I should be able to post updated pics, at all the questions about chips/damage etc yep it will have all that, the armour will be finished first and then the damage will be added.

My roommate plans on taking our dead termie and... rebuilding him! I scoffed and told him it could not be done. ( not with his skills anyway )

But I must admit, seeing this gorgeous paint job in progress really makes me want to bust mine out and embarrass myself.

This next stage always worries me as I can easily muck it up.

the red is so nice it almost seems a shame to battle scar it!

must ask, how is the red done? Over black or white? machrite up to blood red?

looks outstanding so far!

Thanks, yes the red is done over a black undercoat and then based with Mechrite Red, I had to thin it to get a smoothness to it so it took a couple of coats of Mechrite to give a good base and then I worked it up using a Dark Flesh Blood Red mix, I can\'t say the idea was mine as I would be lying, I took the method straight out of White Dwarf.
