Death Korp of Krieg

Ok, so as a little side project from my blood pact I decided to treat myself to a few of the DKok pieces from forgeworld. In particular, the commissar (1) and the quartermaster set (still waiting on it arriving).

So, first up, the commissar:

I wanted to make him look a bit different from all the other stock versions floating about. What can I say, I like my models to be different and unique! Anyway, here was my idea for the pose:

And here is how the hand is currently shaping up:

At the moment I\'ve just defined the positioning of the fingers and pose at this first stage. You\'ll notice I\'ve not actually sculpted the index finger at this stage, it will be much easier to do in the next step. I was thinking of making the middle and ring finger sit inside the skull, perhaps making the tip of the ring finger protrude from an eye socket. Any thoughts on this?

Yes, yes, I know its all very hamlet but I just thought it so fitting for the pose and the whole theme of the DKoK!

Anyway, let me know what you think.

Cheers,

Dante

Thanks for the comments so far guys.

@squidders - :D, I had to show my girlfriend the intro to trapdoor on youtube so she understood what you meant.

Not thought too far ahead with this yet. I like the classic \"black coat, black boots, black cap\" commissar look with red and gold accents. For the base I\'m thinking some dirt, rocks, a little razorwire and maybe some snow but I\'m open to suggestions on both counts.

Ok, almost finished with the hand now. I\'m sticking with the fingers in the skull, don\'t see why it couldn\'t be natural and work and it looks good in my eyes which in the end is all that matters.

The skull is from the flagellant set, it was one of the little chain attachment pieces. The reason I used it was because it was perfect for the smaller and more realistically proportioned krieg. All the other skulls I had were too big, bigger than the commissars head and would have looked silly.

I like the desert, rock and razor wire idea for the base.

Will look good in the traditional krieg colours, should be cool.

Will have a nice atmospheric feel about it

Having fingers sticking through the back of the skull and out the eye sockets isn\'t remotely anatomically correct, but if you think it looks cool then don\'t let that stop you :p

I\'m glad you like the Hamlet thing, because it\'s going to come up just about every time you show someone the model. Even before I knew it was a Commissar model, I was thinking \"Ooh, Shakespeare!\" Maybe take it one step further, and make it Yarrick\'s skull instead of Yorick\'s skull :D A bionic eye and some scraggley gross teeth would do the trick.

The fingers wont be coming through the eye sockets (too far for them and as you say, not anatomically correct).

I don\'t mind the hamlet thing because its not something I\'ve seen done much, especially not on this figure (not seen this one converted at all!)

Good point, most of the DKoK stuff is pretty stock. There isn\'t much need to convert, unless you got a bad cast of a model :p

It\'d be a really long ring finger then.

Yep, I covered why I won\'t be doing this in my post before this.

@ Jericho - Yeah, in the cast I got the sword was ridiculously thin and bent and the pistol looked like the mould for it hadn\'t been lined up right and was bent/missing detail. Originally I thought of using a regular cadian pistol cut to fit but then settled on doing something a bit different to make him stand out in the crowd.

Cheers,
