Decent yellow/white coverage...

Just lamenting ;) the poor coverage and consistency of GW/Citadel whites and yellows and wondered if anyone could give me a viable alternative than always having to have a clean undercoat and using several coats!

I\'ve heard good things about Vallejo paints, but have only really had personal experience or GW/Citadel and artist\'s acrylics (Ie. Daler & Rowney)

Both yellow and white are colours I almost never paint straigh onto the primed areas. I paint another colour first that also provides shading. For yellow a brown colour works well, and for white I either paint a blueish grey or a beige colour first.

Aye, I know that Ritual :p lol But thanks.

But it would still be nice to have a white or yellow that didn\'t look streaky without 20 seperate coats :flame:

Iv found VMC dark flesh is a great colour for painting yellow on, plus it is the right shade for a darkened yellow, so two birds with one stone.

get those new citadel foundation paints, they go on and cover well over a even a black undercoat. got mine today and base coated flesh over black in one go. actually i thinned it a bit and did it in 2 but hey. can\'t fault them yet

They sound interesting, but it doesn\'t look as though they carry a plain yellow or white (yet?)

the dark yellow in the foundation paints from gw works well for a base to build up to a vibrant yellow, but i\'m nt sure about white.

P3 cygnus yellow has better coverage than GW yellow. but not by a great margin. it does go on better though IMO.

morrow white is far superior to skull white.

yellow is still a pain though. i tend to use a 50/50 white yellow for the base then go over that twice with yellow. (for realy bright yellow that is) the trick is of course to not overwork it and rip up the paint and still get it even.

edited to add that the yellow is easy to get smooth without streaking but the transparency still requires a flat undercoat.

Try a tube white if you are having problems with another brand, or my favorite option is to mix some white ink with it as your thinner

Could try the Dheneb Stone as base for the white as quite light.

Generally they are excellent but as befits GW not all are that good. The ochre does not take kindly to much thinning at all

There is a paler grey in the foundation set which you can use as a basis for White.

Failing that if you can get hold of Vallejo Foundation White & mix it with ordinary White, Bob\'ll be your Mothers Brother. :D

Have\'t tried the white, but I find the P3 yellow coats way better then any GW yellows I have.

For white I have been using the base for the Menoth off white, and it coats great as well. I just picked them up on the weekend and I\'m not a Warmachine player, so I don\'t remember the colour names.

P3 does a white base and white highlight, and they go on amazingly. The highlight is more of an ivory colour so it isn\'t brilliantly white, and the base has a brownish tint to it. So you get very warm looking whites, two paints I would recommend to anyone.

This is going to sound silly, but I basecoat black and drybrush the entire model with grey. I\'ve yet to find a color that wouldn\'t stick well over the grey drybrushing, and the dark undercoat ensures that I still get good black underlining and depth.
