Degreasing painted minis

How does one go about washing/degreasing a painted mini? I have some WIP that someone has clearly handled after eating potato chips or something, and the paint is just beading up in certain areas. I\'ve experienced this in the past when using petroleum jelly as a tool lubricant for green stuff work, and never found a really good method for getting the grease removed.

I don\'t want to just soap him up and run him under the tap because I don\'t want the basing material to absorb water.

Any ideas?

Hmm, seems quite a bad situation.

If I had that problem I would fill a small mixing pot with soap and water, then use an old brush to apply it onto the greasy areas of the mini; letting you decide where the water goes and where it doesn\'t.

Since its painted, I wouldn\'t rub the mini clean, but blow dry it.

I\'d like to see other people\'s opinions, thats all I have to offer. :(

Hope it goes well!

how bout washing you hands when you finish eating before you touch your mini\'s again lol ? For the greenstuff work I know that if you do not paint it right after, you can wash it just like you would wash a regula metal mini or plastic to remore the cool dust the factories use for it to not stick to the molds, just soapy water and blam its done but painted ones ??? thats a good one...

Yeah this is something serious... I have a couple of minis like that and if someone actually has an answer... I would like to know too...

you need a degreaser (soap, denatured alchohol, mineral spirits, etc.) a Q-tip and rub lightly. Don\'t rub the paint off, don\'t let the DA set on the paint as it may remove it.

I would start with the soapy water. Turn the mini upside down and lightly rub the q-tip in the oily area. Use lots of soapy water and let it run off the mini\'s head. That will protect the base.

I would not use a harsh solvent (acetone, mek, etc.) as that would surely take the paint off as well.
