do you ever review your progress?

By that I mean do you ever look through your gallery in the order you painted/posted and take note of your progress?

I just did.
My first posted mini (though I later posted some really old paint jobs, like high school, but they are so bad I don\'t count them) was this one:

now he\'s not bad, but he\'s also not this guy:

Of course I have to give some credit to improved photography skills as well.

I do occasionally...but I have realized an important thing recently. I don\'t really care too much about my progress. I used to get frustrated because I was seeing no improvement (with scores and such) from mini to mini..

Then for some reason, I just stopped caring so much. Sure I want to improve, but what I want more is to just have fun with it.

I do.

I think my painting has improved over the past year since I have been getting feedback on CMON, but I think the biggest improvements have been my photography and basing efforts. The feedback others have provided has been invaluable.

Of course improved by the fact it was my first photo with a digital camera and taken with a flash lol

My best mini on here (I think at least)

So yes I do check every now and then

Wish my photography would improve though lol

I suppose I do, every new mini I paint seems to be a bit better than the last one.

From the first Iron Painter comp I entered:

Well, I don\'t have any minis up here yet (may have something to do with having no camera) but I think I would be afraid to show my first minis I painted, in enamels.

I\'ve been trying to but literally the only separation I can really make is \"Pre-internet\" and \"Post-internet\" as, going by CMON scores, that took me from a 4/5 to an 8/8.5 within two minis or so. Since then I\'ve been rather constant.

The left was around my standard before I quit some years back (Pretty constant for those 7 years, didn\'t have a clue what I was at really, didn\'t know what highlighting was even). The right is the fourth mini since getting back into things and reading up.

And for reference <Minis 1,2 and 3>

Honestly I might not paint much but I\'m happy enough that I\'m at least still progressing, if rather slowly. I think for a similar jump I\'ll need to sit down and watch/have a chat with a true master.

Here\'s mine - I did just the same thing and keep a digital diary of sorts to track my progress.

My biggest enemy right now (against improved results) is time. Wish I had more of it...

Generalpoleax, Those space wolves rock!!!

Vince: I like the more recent models you have done and I like the amount of progress you\'ve made in a short span of time. I wish I could improve my photography. ???

god, people on this site improve too quick!!

@vince - i love the face on your first dude!

@arkzein - a perfect illustration of how well you have improved - seeing the same model really highlights how far you have come!

as for me first sm (not first paintjob but certainly one of them):

@vincegamer I\'m telling you now, those are way better than my first ones...I tried applying the pupils of the eyes with a cocktail stick which had way too much paint on.

Still don\'t have a camera though. I don\'t have the money to buy one yet. Maybe I can borrow one.

I enjoy comparing my minis becuase it gives me the drive to keep painting and it\'s kind of fun pulling out a mini from a year ago.

This is from January 2006, my first attempt at GD

This is my most recent from 2007

That\'s some smashing work there, I have to say. Very impressive :)
