Double 00 gauge trains - anyone know anything?

I don\'t know anything about them but I do know there are tonnes of retailers online. Most of their websites SUCK to be honest with ya, from what I\'ve seen, few pictures, annoying designs, etc. But since you have all the names and scales and such it shouldn\'t be too hard to search a site for the product. Might not help much if it\'s not in its original packaging but might give you a starting point at least for values. A google search should yeild dozens of hobby/model retailers, or you can do a search for any of the manufacturers of the trains your friend has, then go to the \"find a retailer\" link or whatever.
If that route doesn\'t work, perhaps do a search for \"historical model\" or \"hobby train\" or some such sites, I know they\'re out there, just can\'t think of any ATM. I think there\'s a bunch of those train folk at the Terragenesis site, they\'ve got forums too.

But I do have respect for the model engineers that construct full train displays.
If memory serves me correctly I\'m sure I did hear of a combined Model railway / wargame a few years ago, based on Stalingrad. Anyone else remember that?

Airfix made a combined set not sure if it was the one you are thinking of. Model railways are not cheap things to buy so you should do well on e-bay. Especially if the locos are steam engines as they tend to be more popular than modern traction. Age will play a part too. The older models will be worth that bit more if they are in good condition.
Best thing to do is check out the e-bay listings and compare what you have to what is on there. You can always check out manufacturers websites too, such as Hornby, Bachman, Lima that sort of thing.

Lionel OO Trains
From the website it seems that they made both 2 rail and 3 rail varieties. (In 3 rail track the power lines are the inside rail in the middle and the two outside lines. This allows you to arrange track in various arrangements without having to worry about loops causing short circuts. They also made a \"scale\" and a \"semi scale\" version of most of their models.
(This is interesting because their O and O27 were never to \"scale.\" A proper O scale requires a circle of 72\" diameter which was not practical for most layouts so the O scale trains were shortened to allow them to work on a 31\" diameter and for O27 a 27\" diameter.)
I still have my collection of O and O27 trains from Lionel. Wonderful things they are but they are archaic even by the standards of my youth.
