Empire Standard Bearer

Hi all I have not painted anyting seriously for a long while now, this is because (as some of you who know me on other forums will know) that I have been having eye sight problems. I have finally got some glasses that seem to be ok but they are taking some getting used to. This then is by no means perfect but I am encouraged by the results so far.
The mini is the new Empire standard bearer on foot,
I am going for a Talabheim theme and to be honest I am more aiming at actually getting the mini finished rather than going for quality this time, the reason for that is as I have said the glasses are taking some getting used too and I have already binned a couple of things that I was not happy with and I am in danger of kicking the hobby altogether.

There are some things that need to be tidied up a little and I also might yet dirty up the white a touch as it is very clean looking at the moment but these are early days so we will see what happens.
The metals are not finished yet either I still need to do some shading on them.
Also the boots are only just base coated and washed with a diluted Scorched Brown.
I hope you like it so far this is a big step for me as my confidence in painting has taken a bit of a bash lately with the trouble with my eyes but hopefully we are now on the path to recovery.

If you feel there\'s been a drop in quality then there really is something wrong with your glasses -- this is a fantastic start.

The shading is excellent on the red and the white is very crisp while still being well defined. I notice that you did the stubble look on his bald head and it turned out well.

So far it\'s up to your usual standard. I like it.

Thanks for the encouragement guys, I am starting to get the painting buzz again as my confidence grows. So now I am a bit further on and here he is so far.

I am looking forward to painting the standard on this chap.

Wat colours did you use for your boots...?

Thanks guys, the skin was painted first with base of Elf Flesh, this I then shaded with a wash of Dwarf Flesh, then gradually I added small amounts of Dark Flesh into the Dwarf Flesh and shaded the deeper recessces.
Highlights were built up from Dwarf Flesh back up to Elf FLesh with a final highlight of Elf Flesh with just a touch of white added.
The white was done with a 50/ 50 mix of Skull White and Fortress Grey, then I shaded with a Fortress Grey wash, then I just highlighted back up to white..
To finish in some of the deeper creases I place shades with very thin Codex Grey.
I will post more pics in a day or two when I get more done.

*EDIT* Dan the boots were a base of Bestial and then washed in Scorched Brown, highlighted back up to Bestial Brown, there is a highlight of Bestial Brown with a touch of Bleached Bone in it and I may yet go on and do another highlight stage but at the moment I like the way they look and don\'t want to over do it.

Not happy with the glove in the sword hand yet, I am also getting some horrible glare of the metals in the rear shot that will go when it is dullcoated hopefully.

fantastic stuff as ever. love the way you have highlighted the sword. i seem to have missed whats happen with your eyes, but i\'m glad your are ok now and that your painting hasn\'t been affected

The red and white are very nice, super smooth. The metallics are top notch too! (And the leather, and the skin, and the beard... etc...)

thanks again for the comments, I have now made a start on the banner, not totally happy with the black areas in the pic but in reality it looks ok and I probably wont change too much there,

I am going to try and do some lettering on the parchment that wraps the skeleton so keeping my fingers crossed that it goes well.

I have not been painting much this week as I have been on nights but today I have managed to get a little more done today.

The script is latin and if I have it right it says Meus Imperator, Meus Vires, Meus Rector which I hope translates as My Emperor, My Strength, My Guide.
I am pretty happy with it so far. Thanks for looking.
