Flora experiments (Inc. Cactus, Willow, epic trees...)

Granddad!
you can actually get \"Willow leaves & twigs\" direct from Scale Link
scroll down about 8 items
I think the scale is about right for GW stuff, 1:35 is a bit bulky and I think 1:72 too small
not sure of the size but I think most other suppliers cut these frames in 4 to sell on

Having to add more limbs to the willow tree, as the fronds/foliage isn\'t hanging right at the moment - although it does look ok.

I\'ll get some more photos up soon.

For the meantime I also came up with something else... Usually, when we strip the insulating plastic of a wire we throw it away... But then I wondered if it could be recycled...

Here\'s the empty, hollow plastic tube which insulated the wire (Which is now being used in the willow tree)...
1Insulation.jpg

I cut it in half, and was pleased to see that it held it\'s curved shape, so I then used a pair of sharp scissors to shape the end into a long point.
2Insulation.jpg

I then wrapped the plastic around (Bending it back on the outer edge of it\'s curve) and started to superglue a few of them together, with the pointed ends splaying out.

I think you can see where I\'m going with this now :p I continued until I had a good few long lengths in the centre, and then made a few shorter \"leaves\" to glue around the outside at the base.
4Insulation.jpg

And the end result is quite good IMO - in this case due to using green plastic it hardly even requires painting... And, if done slightly differently, could also be used to represent tree fronds, like those on a palm tree or similar...

Now add the purple flowers from my granite base (or any color really) to the middle of it and you have some kind of spring bulb plant I\'ve seen somewhere. Hyacynth maybe? I can\'t remember, but it would look good even if it wasn\'t a true to life plant.

Or you could do it smaller (Or in a bigger scale) and have them as those desert \"air plants\" :p

Small idea for the willow: you can get these flimsy dust brushes dirt cheap. You know, the ones with the long, fine synthetic fibers, usually in neon colors, that \"catch the dust and hold it\" (yeah, right)?
I wish I had a picture right now... wait.

this should work.
douse the bristles in the color of your choosing, and they should work a treat, I guess.

My mum\'s boyfriend (seems odd calling him that when he\'s 65 years old) likes ken Dodd. He\'s been to see him a few times. My mum went once with him but didn\'t like it all that much. His shows don\'t have an end time as such, just when he decides that\'s enough.
