There\'s some crazy stuff being posted so far, the level of painting has gone up so much since I was able to attend Games Day in person in 2002. My bronze in 40k Large back then probably wouldn\'t make first cut these days lol

Congrats to all the winners, the painting is exceptional and the sculpting/scratchbuilding I\'ve seen so far is like on par with some of the Euro Demons. Usually don\'t see that kind of extensive conversion as much in North America (with a few notable exceptions of course!).

If I get a chance to attend Games Day in person again soon, you can bet I\'ll put a lot more work into it next time, I was blown away by what I\'ve seen so far.

WOOOOOWWW!! The Khorne champion is simply marvellous!! Congrats to Vincent for really stepping up his game!!! Did he win the sword with it? I honestly think he should have!! The dragomir scene is simply fantastic aswell! I LOVE IT! More pics!! And congrats to all the other winners! Best wishes //ALEX

Congratz to Vincent. :)

A very nice piece - and challenging yourself like that it both cool and admirable.

Fantastic work!

Random thought: I think the little Crux Terminatus got bent/broken on my guy\'s shoulder pad. It\'s not hanging at the right angle in the zoomed out picture next to the Librarian and Khorne Lord. Hopefully he\'s okay! I hate touchups :p

Hopefully you got some pics of the non winners. I almost think thats better to have in GD coverage, the winners are gonna get posted all over the place, and generally some of the other entries are really phenominal.

Actually I just want to see my entry up there lol.

I totally agree with you man. I love to see all the other entries, because it\'s usually a huge logjam just shy of the podium in my experience. Even if there\'s a clear 1-2-3 then there could be a five way tie for 4th some times :p

And yeah, I haven\'t seen much of anything of your Librarian yet, I\'d love a good shot finally :D

hmmm

we don\'t have clear pics of the biker :( I really want to see some

Vincent\'s model rocks!

It is my favourite piece I have seen so far at Toronto GD, and my favourite of his works.

The smoothness of each layer of paint is awesome.

Note to Vincent - when I start painting again for next year, I\'ll be bothering you with suggestions.

I think I definately need to concentrate on 1 model and keep practicing with thin layers of paints to get a smooth finish.

Hell, after this, everyone will be trying that :D

I really want to see better pics of that slaanesh tank with the freehand :(

I hear a couple of the categories were very small? do people foresee categories going away for next year? (such as large model)

Yeah, that\'s exactly the way to put it -- \"made an appearance\" :D Went in, submitted the entries, went out for the rest of the day, got back, got the demons and got out out out of there :D

LoTR Single display bases - erm.. First Cut

@Emopainterguy - I saw your figure, I think that it made first cut. But I didn\'t get a picture of it because it was at the back of the display case. Sorry.

@ainu, display bases may hlp the model stand out mate but, most importantly, it gives the judges something to hold without touching the mini.

for judging...

for judging, they used to remove models from display bases sometimes..since the display base is not to be judged...it doesn\'t matter.

@Ainu,

I really feel you opinion of display bases or plinths is misplaced here. For starters your going to see many final cut miniatuires on them because they tend to be used by people who really take the art of miniature painting serious. Yes they are for setting you miniature apart from the others, but also to give the viewer or judge something to hold on to to hold the miniature when viewing and judgeing. It allows you to not touch the miniature and damage it.

Also a plinth does not need to be fancy or expensive. Some of the best and most simple cost nothing at all. Jakob Neilson uses the metal lids of spray deoderant cans.. something most would consider trash..he made a simple and effective plinth out of them.

Your theory of put it on a plinth and it will make first cut and/or win an award I do not agree with. Because I think an un mounted excelent figure will be judged fairly and also I feel a poorly painted miniature on a fancy $50.00 hand turned exotic wood base wont make it either because of the base.

Ive attended many Demons in many countrys and have more than once watched the judges remove the figures from plints to judge them. This almost always happens in the UK. Thats one of the reasons they require in the rules that the figure be removeable in most cases.
