Hmm, this all sounds very distressing. It\'s been a while since they printed any decent pics in the GD booklets, I had hoped that they would have sorted the situation out by now. I\'ll still buy the WD though, hopefully it will be half decent, the last WD I bought was last year\'s GD issue, the magazine (and the GD booklet) were both rubbish.

I might buy this issue. I buy WD every now and then to check if the quality has increased and I might as well buy this issue with the GD coverage. My expectations aren\'t that high, though.

The issue out right now is IMO the best one in a while... so if you want to check the quality and see if you like it I suggest you should buy this one. :) A really nice step-by-step masterclass article on painting by Neil Green.

@Albert: Shame... I was able to see your mini IRL out of the locker very close and it deserves the best pictures available as it was flawless.

Have they re-designed these articles so that you actually learn something from them? Before, these articles where only fragmental reiterations of the same techniques over and over again. Hardly worth reading.

@Anders: Well there are some tips and tricks there.. not sure it\'s aimed for you ;) but I did learn one trick or two still. There was an article some numbers back on blending as well.. and that was also a great aricle. The positive part now is that they seem to actually use the same colours as described. :)

Wonder if they let the painters write the articles themselves? :]

I think you can always learn things from articles like this, IF they are thoroughly written and illustrated.

The Booklet is a dire piece of Garbage.
Not one of the photos of the Spanish team do their figures any form of justice.

As for Avelorn\'s suggestion of emailing GW forget that. Emails will get ignored. Put your complaints in writing as I am intending to do.
Copy it to Owen Rees (White Dwarf Editor) and Tom Kirkby. Just to see if it will raise any eyebrows.

A pathetic attempt

The White Dwarf booklet is AGAIN another piece of rubbish. Yes, the paper is better but why is it a \"professional\" publishing company is unable to produce a decent set of photographs from what they describe as the leading minature competition in the world!!! PANTS

There is NO REASON that good quality photos can\'t be taken on the day. None what so ever!!! It DOES NOT require the miniatures to be taken to the studio.

Every year, a host of modelling competitions are held around the world and most have associated magazines produced with decent clear and enlarged photos. Military Modelling produces their EuroMilitaire Special each year..........the photos are taken at the show. In fact, there are at least 4 teams of photographers at the show taking high quality pics!

I ask you......Adrian Bay\'s Marneus Calgar printed the same size as a gaming piece.....with no indication of the scale at all............

Why do GW keep missing the opportunity to really promote this aspect of the hobby?

Rubbish......utter rubbish.

They should be ashamed of themselves.

I wouldn\'t put my name on that publication

RANT OVER (for now)

I just reckon they should post them bigger than 1:1, the paint jobs init are good enough to be printed at 500% thier normal size so why not do it.

And wasn\'t Sven\'s frodo meant to have an OSL effect?

:( Don\'t shoot the messenger lol

But the photos are very bad, best example i could find was Jakob Rune\'s Inquisitor, in the booklet its very dark and gloomy, but the photo\'s he posted on here have rich and vibrant colours.

So Rob I suggest that you do as I\'m doing and write a letter of complaint.
Provide copies of decent pictures borrowed from CMON and point out how poor GW\'s versions are.

That\'s not nice to hear. Haven\'t seen the stuff myself yet.
My stuff usually photographs bad... or rather when GW photographs my stuff it usually comes out bad... Hmmm... anoying...

another reason why i won\'t do gd\'s.

if they don\'t put the effort in, why should we pay them the price of admission.

looks like i will be looking around for the military comps. (i\'ll get battered even more)
