Getting back into painting, need some tips.

Howdy. I have taken a long break from painting, somewhere around 8 months and I am finally ready to get back into it. I dug up some of my old minis and White Dwarf mags and go really interested in painting again.

I would paint a lot for commision never hammering out anything but nicly painted armies for people. I posted a few things early on in here but since I\'ve painted 6-8 large armies then I took a break. I always enjoyed painting for myself and fun. I would give away/sell the minis after I was done. I enjoyed the whole challenge of painting spending hours on one figure. Then I came to a point of being burned out from painting armies for cash. Speed painting was my talent and I loved the thrill and rush putting a large 2k point army together and painting it in a weekend to high standards.

Anyways I am back, and ready to paint, not armies but single figures for fun and to give away/sell afterwards. Videogame have no apeal to me and I am back into the fun and thrill of painting and trying new things.

Enough about me, here is what I can do. I was able to do everything but wetblend well, and Non Metal Method I could never get. Everything else I was good at, never amazing just good.

I checked my paints and stuff and since they were all GW they dried up, go figure. So I am starting from scratch. I never like too many paints. 2 of a color because I would mix a lot. Any suggestions on paints I should get? GW? Vajello?

Besides that any other stuff you guys can recommend for getting back into painting of a high quality? I was mainly looking at picking this all up from the GW store / hobby stores near Toronto Ontario Canada but I am willing to order stuff online if certain things are better.

One last thing, I am looking at a bottle of floor wax that was with my paints, I remember it was for something. Its the magic floor wax or whatever it is called, looks like clear watered acrylic based.

you are on the right place to improve your work. But I find it hard to believe anyone can produce quality 2k army in a weekend.

Your best bet is to start posting pics and getting some feedback. Thicken your skin. I know when I don\'t paint for a couple of weeks it is like starting over.

lol, by quality i mean drybrushing as the only method of highlighting, I would do black undercoat, heavy drybrush for the main and a \"wet-drybrush\" for highlight with some watered down paints for inking.

I would start on a Friday after classes and be done late Sunday nights. Better than the average gamer who takes pride in their armies but nothing super show stopping special.

In terms of the paints, I will have to order online it seems for Vajello or Reaper paints unless anyone near Toronto knows where to pick up some quality paints.
