This mini was an absolute joy to paint from start to finish, I thought I would actually get fed up of painting metallics by the end but in all honesty every piece was enjoyable. I treated each armoured plate the same finishing each one before moving onto the next, I did this so I could slowly build up the look and the highlights in as natural a fashion as I could.

I was quite nervous about painting on the tattoo on the arm for fear of messing up the previous work done there but it turned out ok in the end. It is not yet submitted as I have to still make up the collage for the gallery but as soon as that is done I'll put the link in here.

Hope you all like it guys.

Some of the best metallics I have ever seen, I strive to one day make mine that nice. The figure is overall fantastic, the skin and tattoos are outstanding and the base is nice as well. You should be very proud.

beauty, mate!!!
definitely a masterclass in metals...

the emblem on the shield looks so cool...
the face looks great...
i really like the wrappings on the axe haft, and the use of your tints on the base that reflect the colors in the metals...

the tattoos let me down a little...
they really could use a layer with a bit of softer tone to blend with the skin more...
maybe they're meant to be brand spankin' new...
the letters on my fingers looked like they had been drawn on with a Sharpie for the first few months:)...

all in all, it's a hell of a paintjob...
you should be proud...

cheers

Thank you very much for the replies, I did like I say enjoy every part of this mini and it is now up in my gallery if you would like to look/vote or comment that would be great. I did think about softening the tattoos, I did alot of research into tribal tattoo art on the net and all the images I came across showed them to be pretty sharp to be honest. Also I was just so relieved to actually not screw it up at the last I also thought best not fix what isn't broken, thanks again guys for your views.

most pictures you'll see of tattoos are taken before the customer walks out of the shop...
they go through a few different changes in tone over time...
it's no big deal...
this guy is just proud of his new ink;)...

cheers

Uhm, wow! Outstanding work, the metallics are obviously masterclass. Definitely puts my version (of the first Axenarf painted a few years ago) to shame.

I agree with jah about the tattoos, but a few glazes with the basecolor of the flesh should sort this out nicely (unless of course he is just proud of his new tat).

Just fantastic. You've given a brilliant miniature an outstanding coat of paint. I hope you're chuffed!

Cheers, B.

Awesome work on the metallics - it's rare to see the painted effect actually look like metal and these really do for me. I'm sure it must look even more impressive in the round where you can rotate your viewing angle.

The rust colour though doesn't really hit the mark IMO; it looks sort of burgundy coloured, more than any natural rust colour(s) you tend to see and because of how realistic the shiny metal is it clashes quite a bit to my eyes.

FWIW at this scale I don't think tats should look soft - imagine that softness scaled up to our size and it'd practically look like they were airbrushed onto the skin (without masking)!

The tattoo is maybe a little too uniform in colour though and a gentle glaze of the background flesh colour might be all that's needed to lighten them in a few areas if you want to give it a shot. It's a pretty forgiving technique since it's hard to screw up the surrounding skin using the same colour :cute:

Excellent photos by the way :good:

thanks again guys, Einion you make a good point about the rust colour it does look more convincing when I look at it in my cabinet than in the pics. One day I'll get around to doing a tutorial, its just finding the time. Thanks again for the comments.

This is an awesome paint job. I love the metallic the washes do age it well which is what i always do with my work. The tattoo is a nice touch gives the character that i am a brawler feel, that or I just got out of jail (must be one of the two). The only thing that is throwing me off is the pink skin-tone which is to warm for a dark and EEVIL character.
All and all i give the job easy 9 to 9.3

Simply incredible. I love everything about it. Is that true-metalic-metal painting? May I ask what you use? I can see the hull red and camo black brown in the armor, but what else do you do? Even a brief description of this beautiful work would be great. I just love it.

I can see jcscull's point about the pink skin-tone, but I disagree. I think that it looks vibrant and vital rather than too warm.

Very cool.
