Have you given a painted mini as a gift?

(Inspired by Zaphod\'s and Jabberwocky\'s threads.)

How many of you all have given painted minis as gifts for Christmas, birthdays, etc.? Were they well received? Is it something you would do again? Would you give to someone who wasn\'t a mini aficionado?

I\'ve considered doing it, but only for friends who are already into the hobby and only minis that go with what they already collect. Thoughts?

Yep, i painted these to a TT standard for my Brothers BDay in November for his High Elf army, kinda wished i had just painted a character after finishing them though!

Yeah a couple. Gave a Raistlin Figure to my First Girlfriend back in HighSchool. Gave an Eldar Avatar to the Woman I eventually Married as well.

I\'ve gotta say for gamer girls minis work better then roses :D

I\'ve given painted minis to only a couple of people who were not mini aficionados (one was my mom, I painted a Reaper angel for her). And it\'s not something I think I\'d do much,... non-mini fanatics tend to give you funny looks and not really understand the effort you put into stuff like that.

I have given painted and unpainted minis as gifts to several people who are mini-lovers/painters as well. It\'s much more gratifying doing that since they know what kind of work goes into it along with the rarity/cost of some mini that you might get for them.

Hmmm, minis over roses?? ? You bet! ;)

I painted up Razheem for my boyfriend as a chrismas gift last year. He liked him well enough, sadly it feel down and broke as he was moving. The tail and the fluffy stuff on the helmet snaped of, so I couldn\'t repair it.
And I painted two plaster figures (or whatever they are called) for my mothers birthday, an angel and a teddybear.

Do minis painted by other people count? I gave my son, Dedwrekka, the one who got me into this whole crazy mess, beautifully painted orcs by the exceptional Mr. Dragonsreach. They are his pride and joy. :D

Oh, wait! I also gave my sister three Dark Elf Witch Elves that adorn her desk at work - sort of a warning to people who come to see her lol

Yep, but only to a gamer.

I don\'t think people who aren\'t into the hobby can appreciate how much time and effort you put into painting a mini, so I feel like it would be kind of a waste giving them a mini.

I gave my Dad a painted Bigfoot I had made from greenstuff. He is a bit of a Bigfoot afficianado...He seemed to like it pretty well...but since my dad shows very little emotion other than Anger, I guess I don\'t know for sure......LOL

Yep. Gave a mini to my work-mate. She liked it, but my other work-mates raised their eye-brows.\'Twas Alyx from HF,the gun toting kind. But all were impressed by the amount of detail. All in all: mixed response, imo.lol

I\'ve given to non gamers and I\'ve given to gamers, and I think the sentiment was appreciated more by the non gamer. To them it was a very unique and personal present for being \'hand crafted\'

vike didn\'t mention it, but he also gave me the shark lawyer he painted for the first Wyrd contest.

I am working on a gift in return.

I have missed these last couple Christmasses but the 3 before that I gave my wife a hand-painted mini-horse ornament.

Oh yeah....I\'m guess I was thinking of gifts to \'non-mini\' people mostly....I have given out several of my painted minis to different folks.....Quite presumptious of me isn\'t it!! LOL

Not at all!!! The one I bought in Works of the Heart auction sits proudly on my desk next to her sister that you sent me. The only think that worries me is that they are flanking Grumb\'s dwarf and I\'m not sure if there\'s hanky panky going on amongst them when I\'m not around. :D

I hardly think so. I have a special shelf in my display case where I put minis painted by others and the Elf with Hawk you sent me stands proudly among them. And the photo here doesn\'t nearly do the mini justice.

Although that shelf is kinda sparsely populated at the moment, I don\'t know that meny people and even less send me anything painted. I really do enjoy them and like seeing the paintjobs up close.

Let\'s see. I\'ve once made a little diorama of Yoda in front of his hut for a friend who is a huge Star Wars fan. Apart from that I\'ve sort of done two conversions as friends\' birthday present. A chaos minotaur that needed wings added and tentacles and a flying disc that had to become more fantasy styled. All of that was well recieved.

The only other birthday related thing I\'ve done was a sculpt for Kev White. Sally\'s present actually, since she commissioned that badger figure for his birthday last year (some of you may have seen it at Salute). Really cool thing to do by the way.

Actually, there is one more mini-related thing I\'ve done for birthdays. That is, sculpting tools for Cindy. I\'ve made several putty pushers and two tool bags for her by now. Wonder what she\'ll ask for next time. :)

Wow. It\'s a good thing many of us are men and therefore immune to subtle hints.

This is kind of ironic as my last submission to CMON was a present to a friend who doesn\'t collect minis (it was Heresy\'s Captain Nathan - Mal from Firefly - as he is a huge fan). He seemed very pleased with it and I think appreciated the time and effort that went into it.
In the past I\'ve also done some for my wife and have another one for her on the workbench at the moment.

I give painted minis to most of my mates hoping one day they will get interested in the hobby. Alas to date I have made no converts.
