Have you given a painted mini as a gift?

I\'ve given two.

The first was Sauron towering over Isildour and his father with the base disolving into an illustrated manuscript, showing the text from the opening of the film. The \'It was then that Isildour took up his father\'s sword\' bit. I believe it currently resides in a dark cupboard at my cousin\'s Mums house and he has forgotten about it. He was well chuffed with it at the time though.

The other - A Mordor troll battering a load of Gondorians was a gift to my Dad. My parent\'s cleaner knocked it off the shelf and shattered it into many, many pieces.

I don\'t think I\'ll bother in future!

I\'ve given a number of painted minis to friends and family. My brother is often the recipient, he\'s as geeky as me, and appreciates the personal work that goes into such a gift. I\'ve given Lord of the Rings figures to some friends, which went over very well, and one of my personal favorites, Marion\'s Mermaid, was greatly appreciated!

I will no longer present such gifts at a party, however, several people demanded to see \"the tiny mermaid\" and you can guess what happened - yep, she was DROPPED! Damage was not very bad and I touched her up a week later, but I was pretty pissed that someone would be so careless with a friend\'s birthday gift (not to mention my hard work).

Incidentally, I always specifically tell people that their gift mini includes the promise that I will at least attempt touch-ups and repairs if they become necessary in the future.

Aye - my werewolf in London piece (In the WIP section) I need a finsihed photo when I see my mate next. He really liked it :)

I was working on a piece for a friend for a Christmas present, but had a bit of a mishap involving a rotary tool and the integral base (base is still there; part of the mini isn\'t). I\'m getting a replacement thanks to a very generous person (you know who you are and you rock!).

As soon as I get it done, then I\'ll give it to her.

I\'ve given minis to people before - never specifically as a pressie though.

I did get two as presents myself when I left the school I was teaching at.

One of the lads in my form made me a cracking little diorama of a guardsman digging the grave of his dead officer, and another painted me a rather splendid orc boss.

Fantastic gifts that almost brought a tear to my eye (and that takes some doing :))

Yea, I\'ve given minis I\'ve painted as presents. They were always well recieved, especially by non-gamers.

I\'ve given a number of minis to people over the years. They\'ve all been quite appreciative, especially for the conversion work I\'ve done on many of them.

From what I hear, men born without this particular immunity usually end up becoming lawyers.

And vince, I remember the Breyer Stablemates you painted and converted into ornaments for your wife. I started one that was to look like Barbaro, but it\'s sitting with all my other WIP\'s currently. I did have the intention of sending it on to his owner\'s when it was finished.

A few.

One was a Ral Partha Elmore figure of a Warrior woman with a Familiar. That was given to my then boss. (You can find her in the Dark Sword range)
Also an \'Elminster\' from Ral Partha to her husband, who is a Spirit Healer. (They both still have them)

To another former Boss I gave a Dwarf which I managed to paint to match her red hair. (Taking the P**s as she was quite short, 4.10 in high heels and with a \"bit\" of an attitude)

For a former colleague who was leaving to take up a much better post (she was the Account Managers secretary and very effective.) I did the OLD GW Dragon Slayer Dwarf, standing beside the Head of a Dragon (Early 90\'s figure) I managed to put up a sign beside the Dwarf Which read \"NEXT!\". She loved it and kept it on her desk as a warning.

There are a few others out and about in the world as well.

I gave my bloke a couple of Griffin Thallions for Christmas \'05. He seemed quite chuffed. I also painted up a couple of other Rackham figures for him before that- he\'d bought them, and gave them to me to finish off. Again, he seemed pleased with the effort I\'d put in. Bless him, but he\'s not much of a painter, so he\'s always really impressed with whatever I manage.

I too have seen vincegamer\'s horse ornaments, and I love them! I was quite disappointed when I saw he mentioned missing a few years- was hoping to see what this year\'s edition was like. Would like to try and do something like that for my sister- she\'s really into horses. Could even do a set... she\'d be lucky to get them before Christmas 2050 tho! lol It\'d make an awesome wedding present, if she decided to get hitched at some stage...

plenty of times. I painted an old Drizzt ral partha for a friend, some gnomes for another buddy, I also painted a dragon one time, and then left it on the hood of my car as I drove off. Managed to run the poor thing over afterwards.

I have on a couple occasions...
I gave my brother the Dark Elf lord in my gallery... The Khemri wizard in my WIP is for my cousins birthday... and I once gave a friend a 100mm sculpt of myself lol...

Not yet - I\' don\'t feel I\'m at a high enough standard for them to be considered worthy presents. However, I\'m considering doing something for a couple who are getting married this/next year sometime. They\'re both big Lord Of The Ring fans and love Aragorn and Arwen so I\'m tempted to to try a wedding themed diorama.

Oh, I forgot that. I gave the Thunderbolt mountain swan ship to my cousin for her marriage. Didn\'t paint it though. Just antiqued it.

A friend I\'ve known since childhood asked me to paint a figure for her mom\'s birthday. The mom is a remarkable and unusual lady who is a rabid Republican and also a former nun. My friend had found one of reaper\'s battle nuns in a game store and decided her mom had to have one. I agree with HBBilly; the non-gamers are very appreciative of minis as gifts. Of course the mini is gone now, but I took some pics before she went, and now she is at image id 37593.
