Help on technique name

Hey folks :) Hope you\'re all well !!

Small question,
how do you call the technique where you go over a white basecoat with a black basecoat from under to mark the areas that are in shadow. (work the other way to by applying white base coat from the top of the mini).

Well in Model painting like for Military Models (Tanks and such) they call it preshading..they apply a dark base coat like a black or or dark grey and then spray lighter colors or in your case white over the black to catch the highlights.

In most cases they dont generally preshade the entire vehicle black, only the recessed areas..less area to recover with white or a lighter color.

Jeremie did the same technique on a figure I now have here in my collection he painted while he was at my house last year.

Instead of applying that dark black base coat he did the light coat of white over a deep shade of purple.

Yes he uses it quit a lot,
In fact that\'s why I was looking for the translation ;)
Have yet to try it myself.... but then again haven\'t been doing much painting, need time !!!

zinthil priming? (sp?) where you prime black then spray white from the light source?
