I think exactly the same as Ten ball Dennis. I never critizise things I have no glue about. Sculpting is one of these things. I'm happy if I can fill up gaps smoothly when needed....Your Gokan is looking great, seeing my sculpting skills are well below par, I will save my crits (if any) to when you start painting him. That at least is something I know a little about.
A fine bed of finely graded mature English cheddar, a sause of long stewed tomatoes, onion, just one, mushroom, best u like..about 500g, some basil...lots of basil. Pasta to the tooth, more cheddar, a light skim of sauce, a little cheese.....
I'm in heaven
.... Gokan .... And it has been a pleasure to watch.
I can't speak for everyone else, but I have been fairly inactive in miniature painting since last summer, so I'm just looking for inspiration. The Gokan thread is helping me very much. But it is also chronicling the efforts of artists with far more skill than I have, so I just sit back and admire the work. And it has been a pleasure to watch.
Specifically on your piece, that's some fine sculpting, I really liked the addition of the boar head on the belt, all of your additions seem to suit the style and atmosphere of the mini.Except the plastic skulls, I'm just not a fan of them on this mini, the style of sculpting looks wrong to me, but I may be alone in that thinking. And I have been very curious to see how you handle the painting, since you had such detailed critiques in the other thread. It shows you have a very advanced understanding of many techniques.
I will continue to lurk, and hopefully I can begin painting and posting in my neglected WIP, it has been too long!
Dennis, it might be that my IQ / English is poor but Im struggling to understand some of your comments. eg the colour theory section - is this just a random rant of aimed at a certain artist(s).?
As for comments like 'it looks nice' , when I comment like that its more of an encouragement / keep up the good work type meaning and tbh I carnt see a problem with that
(I like knowing people are following my progress even if they carnt see anything to criticise).

I'm not sure why you didn't post this into the Gokan thread?
Imho there is nothing you can't say there and sometimes a little spark is needed to start a constructive discussion (or to start a revolution, hehehe).
11k views on the Gokan thread? Never looked at that. Woah, that makes me scared, after all for me it rather feels like sitting on a "virtual" painting table with you guys. Now It's like that painting table is in the middle of a full Auditorium Maximum.
All I can say, is the same I always say to new students making practica in our laboratory. Feel free to ask/say anything on what I do. That's the best way for our students to learn as I'm more than happy to explain and go into detail for them. At the same time it's the only way I can learn too and reflect on things that I do automatically (and maybe wrong or more complicated than needed).
So for all watchers, feel free to comment you are very welcome to!!
P.s.: Hopefully that all makes sense, as I'm no English native speaker.
@Dennis: You are painting landscapes? Any possiblity to look at them? From time to time I paint acrylic paintings of more or less realistic/surrealistic topics. I'm always interested in other people's artwork.
LOL, I was one of the stupid viewer this morning (China time), I was, WTF this guy is writing, while eating my cereals! Now i still didn't get, might be my IQ too!

Therese are always regarded as 2 seperate entities of miniature painting competition so from my standpoint I must keep them seperate... Example crystal brush is about miniature painting 13 categories. The 14 th category is best sculpt. As sculpting is cool I don't give a crap about learning it. It's not my thing art has many faces and most of the time more often then not a pottery maker is not a rennasance painter!!! Greek amphorae ancient art davinci rennasance art so subjective. it's in the hands of the philistines people give feedback and curtious crits based on what their expertise is.... So I can agree with ten ball yeah I'm taken back by the sculpting but what I know and a very high rank on P&P. to prove further my accolades and the last to time I attended a golden demon I've amassed 2 trophies and an hinurable mention cert!! So I only know about painting Dennis my buddy. I wouldn't know the first thing about sculpting it looks great yeah but I cannot go any further because simplety I don't know if the board head is the right dimension I mean I only know painting and I too know this well I full understand Betty Edwards book on color theory and pick my colors on the fly based on the methodology therein... So my friend when you start the painting I will be keeping a watchful eye on "hmmmmm" and give you a crit conversation that only the colonial politicians of old like Sam Adams will be envious of.
You could just put round, flat or convex plates, and free hand a bit Celtic knotwork. That would be the direction I would take it. If free hand is not your strong point, perhaps you can get some cheap earrings from eBay, I found some Celtic design stud earrings that were around the size of small shields. I'd guess you could find some smaller ones. It's worth a shot!
