(How to) High-Resolution on YouTube

Allow me to demonstrate how easy it is to take a normal video on YouTube and make it high resolution:

Take the URL:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZEeyuWZwW8

And add:

&fmt=18 (for normal hi-res)
or
6 (for flash hi-res)

Remember, all you need to do is add &fmt=18 or &fmt=6 to get hi-resolution.

Compare and contrast the original video with the hi-resolution if you don\'t believe me:

Original/Normal YouTube Version

Hi-Resolution YouTube

Only difference is a slightly longer wait to load (though faster computers may have no difficulty either way).

The example you posted. Put both on side by side and synched them, just couldn\'t tell. Both looked exactly the same.

Probably a problem related to:

Computer (Software?)
Monitor
Eyes :p

It does work though, don\'t know why it isn\'t for you.

I google searched and it did work well on some Japanese animation, but even then I could only tell because the subtitles had no artifacting. I couldn\'t see any difference with the actual video.

I reckon it\'s probably just me. I can\'t tell the difference between formats, staff in shops try to make me see how much better HD is to Blu Ray (or vice versa), or how crap DVD is when it isn\'t on 1080 or whatever the formats are, and the differences between CRT, LCD and Plasma.
I just can\'t see any difference.

Nice tip, thanks.

Only a subtle improvement in a lot of areas, but useful thing to try for something detailed.

Yeah, it\'s you :D

Honestly, some things are very close (I\'m not sure, can anyone eyeball a difference between HD DVD and Blu-Ray??) but normal DVD v. one of the higher-res options? Major diff.

HD DVD and Blu-Ray shouldn\'t have any difference in image quality... if there is a difference it\'s probably due to the purity of the signal you\'re getting out of the machines. Cheap cables can make even 1080p look like garbage if you end up with noise in your image.

Anyway, I didn\'t see a huge difference with this particular video, but I\'ll try to keep this in mind when I come across a particularly bad quality Youtube video.

Can\'t say I noticed much of a difference, but in this case I\'m guessing it has a lot to do with the actual example video which is very dark and fuzzy to begin with. :drunk:
