hi everyone,

this is a bit of an unusual post, but I don't know what else to do, so I'm falling back on you guys for some help! I"m sure it is something obvious I'm missing, but I can't figure out what!

Here's the problem: I want to add an article to the site, but I can't seem to work out how to do it. I have added articles before - but something seems to have changed, maybe with the recent updates to the site.

So, this is what is happening: on the CMON homepage, I click on 'Articles' on the righthand sidebar. This takes me to the articles page, where I then click 'submit/edit articles' at the top of the page. This takes me to the page where I can see the articles I've already submitted - no problem so far.

When I type in a new subject for an article and click 'submit', it takes me to the 'edit article' page, but here's where I run into some trouble: the white box where the text goes won't let me click on it to write anything! So I'm stumped. here's a screenshot of how it looks:

I've checked this same 'edit article' page on some of the articles I've previously written, and it's the same...can't click on it, and nothing appears in the box, it is blank.

SO what do I do?!

I feel like a complete idiot - it's probably something completely obvious...but whatever it is, it's beaten me thus far!

I thought it might have something to do with the scheme - I have a white background scheme, but the default for CMON is black, and I thought maybe that meant the text wasn't showing up or something...but I can't seem to find a way to change the scheme anymore -seems to have disappeared with the updates. And anyway, I've tried highlighting the white box to see if there is any script there, and there's nothing.

Any help you can give me would be much appreciated!

Ok -crisis averted, I've already worked out a solution (which makes me feel even more dumb because I only created this thread a couple of minutes ago, and this should be the first thing I tried)

When I had the problem I was using Firefox; I jsut tried using Internet Explorer and it works fine.

So now it's something for the bugs/feedback section I guess - can't add articles using firefox!

Sebastian I normally use Firefox at work and have had no problem accessing the articles.
However since I'm at home at the mo I'm using IE (something or other) and I'm getting on OK as well.
I'll keep a weather eye out for your article and see if it's a common issue or not.

Granddad!
I only use firefox, so I just had a play with it
at first it wouldn't let me, it did the same thing, but I had a pop up asking me to deny or allow CMoN to run script, I ticked the remember box and clicked allow. I had to do that twice, both times the background was white
So I came out of it, then went back in, worked straight away, with the default blue background
if that's any help to anyone, If anyone could explain why that worked I'd be interested also :D

Sounds like a security thing. You need to allow Firefox to run the scripts that enable editing on the page. Then, for it to work, you need to reload the page, so that the scripts are run. Firefox can't start running the scripts when the page is already loaded.

Yup, definitely sounds like a security thing, maybe you should check your add ons.

Either that or firefox hates you :D

I cheated and added CMON to my "Trusted Sites" - if we can't trust Chern Ann who can we trust:terror:? Now I get no more annoying messages about pages trying to run scripts etc.:victory:
Of course if CMON gets maliciously hacked I could be in a world of hurt, but hey, you pays your money you takes your chances:pray:.

I'm glad everyone is so willing to share their knowledge in articles, and the next upgrade is to the article system so it doesn't look like complete crap (I can say that because I wrote it). More changes coming January.

Thanks for the help and advice guys - it's ok, I figured it out in the end, and managed to add the article, It's online now - it's called 'telcharion: painting the flesh, robes, textured apron, and building the base'.
