D\'Accord.

Only have a couple but superb sculptures, a bit daunting to think about painting at the moment. But still damn fine mini\'s.

If you can\'t actually buy a company\'s mini, it\'s not surprising they might have financial trouble

Tis a very good point....there were plenty of \'customers\' lined up and waiting to spend their money, but couldn\'t find out where or how.

There are a few other \'mini\' businesses out there as well that you almost have to beg to buy their stuff. Its a shame, but it seems some business can\'t seem to make it easy for the money to come in.

If I recall correctly...

The very lovely and much missed Jean at GQ had to be quite \'cloak and dagger\' in order to stock the range as there appeared to be a definite reluctance to sell outside of France.
Some of the discussions about the difficulties in purchasing Ilyad miniatures are archived on this site if anyone can be arsed to dig them out;)

Actually, i do genuinley wonder what it would cost to buy a master copy of a model? There are a number of casting companies around after all...

I think we wouldn\'t get the masters...
Maybe they would sell their casting molds...
Anybody knows french? - maybe the best thing would be just to ask them via email...

So, are those 2 sculpts already in their hands? Greens and stuff that is still in your friend\'s hands and not paid for, you could probably sell, but anything already in their hands. Well you could ask. Still, it seems a bit early, given that we have only one source describing the company as kaput. Who knows what they have in mind.

Someone should message Illyad to see what the crack is. You\'d have to speak French and not hold your breath for a reply though. Maybe contacting GQ to ask what they mean by their statement would be good too.

I was talking to a shop in france over the weekend and he told me they went out of business. He did say a few Ilyad employes are now working for Asmodee on Helldorado.
I really have had the feeling that Ilyad wanted to just stay a small market company as they were so hard to get outside of france.

http://www.letempledujeu.fr/ does carry them, but I am sure thier stock will be getting low soon too. They were pretty easy to work with too.

French Pride?

It almsot seems this is a case of the French wanting to keep their culture \'pure\'? I know they are VERY adament about keeping French \'stuff\' with the French, going as far as making laws about it, but would a company go this far over a cultural thing?

I mean, they didn\'t WANT to sell their stuff outside of France? ???

Anyhow, I have a few Ilyad, thanks to Frenchkid, and I hope that some other company buys them out. Problems with that are a) Only GW is probably large enough to buy out another company, and they won\'t, and b) They probably would only sell to another French company.

Ah, well....... Viva La\' France :(

Purely IMO...

From what I\'ve read and seen, Ilyad were very reluctant to sell outside France and I am sure that has hastened their demise.

On the other hand...thank God for Rackham who are able and willing to take GW on and are happy to supply a superior product to a world market.

Vive le Rackham!:D

It is very sad... I would have loved to own some of their minis :(

As has already been said, hopefully they will be bought out by someone with more marketing sense. Did anyone notice that their demise coincided with the opening of rather spiffy new French company SculptArt31? Probably pure coincidence, but it\'s interesting...

Cheers

Thats an absolute shame... I really love their Vorag Barbarians! What needs to happen is for a company not to buy everything but to pick up the barbar range and keep producing them at very least! I wonder how much something like that would cost?

Well, I\'ll confirme for Illyade going out of buisnesse.

Concerning the reluctance to sell outside of France it as nothing to do with purenesse of culture or such non sense. From what I gathered it was mainly due to the fact that the company couldn\'t absorb the costs of seeling outside of France. The thing to understand is that a mini company that starts to reach a size where it has 5-6 full time employees can not survive on painters alone. Even though we see mostly that side of the mini selling industry, it is easy to realize that profit isn\'t going to be made by selling 200-300 minis of each model. That is doable of you have a one man show going, or maybe 2-3 employees, but not with more. And Illyade never bothered with developping a game to go along with its range.
The final blame for this rests on the poor management of Illyade by it\'s founder (which I\'v been told was never really efficient). I have no knowledge in buisnesse developement but if I was to make a guess I would say that with correct management and good game developement Illyade would have really worked considering the talents that participated in its construction.

As for beeing bought by another company. That would seem possible since having lost all it\'s employees it is not a huge company to buy off, and the chronique de la lune noir would certainly bee interesting from a buisnesse point of vue in my opinion.

Oh well, this leaves room for better companies to come along .... :D

Aye, I\'d actually buy Rackham if they picked Ilyad\'s line up.

Bottom line is, if you are running a business and aren\'t willing/capable of getting product to those who want it, you\'re in deep doo-doo from the start.
