Going back some now, but after doing that Ork, I realised I still had an NMM experiment I hadn\'t finished...

Although the NMM on the Ork turned out OK, I know I\'ve still got a lot to learn.

So here is the Command Squad Champion I never finished from AGES ago ... :p

I\'m primarily after feedback on the SWORD at the mo, as I wanted to do some streaking on it, but I\'m unsure whether I want to streak lighter on the darker areas, or darker on the lighter areas... Etc etc

Yes yes, mould lines - sod off lol
I\'ll get rid of \'em if I can be bothered, but for now this just an NMM experiment :p

after spending a few hours redoing my own piece i can feel you on the idea of nmm. i would reccomend you look at some of rituals pictures. particularly http://www.coolminiornot.com/96611
this pic helped me quite a bit. i find that blending in nmm gray\'s usually constitutes using a checker pattern.. if its black on top then its lighter on bottom. and vice versa. so good on you mate for what you have done thus far.

:)

not really to good with this NMM stuff my self, but it looks like it needs to be darker near the hilt of the sword

Yeah, the darker areas need a bit more refinement on the blade.

Also, I\'ve started on the shield...

OK, no help SO far :p lol
But here is some progress.

I\'m thinking the sword looks ok (minus some streaking) and the shield isn\'t TOO bad, but I\'m still struggling with the curved surface of the pad...

I really would appreciate some help here peeps :D

Well... The edges are white and the centre is black, so can\'t make it much more contrasting I don\'t think ??? lol

And the paints are almost water :p

The reason it LOOKS rough is that I was ALSO experimenting with underpainting with this guy, so the rough areas is drybrushed highlighting to go beneath the base coat.

(If that\'s what you meant)

I think you have to much white, the white only needs to be at hotspots, at the moment you have almost quarter of the pad white.
I would go over with some brown (snakebite?) glazes to tone it down. That should make it look a bit more golden.

Dan, the shoulder pad just doesn\'t look right. Should be brighter in the center, no? That\'s where the light\'s going to hit, right?

I\'d reverse what you have going on the shoulder pad, but lay the highlight more naturally, not in a circle, and hit the edges with your highlight. I think that\'ll make it look right.

As for the sword, it\'s looking great, but I still think going darker for the dark areas at least would make it pop even more.

Much better than my first attempts at NMM (I still stick to metallics), but from what I\'ve seen of great nmm, it\'s all about the contrast.
