Ok when I paint a mini I paint it in colours that are pleasing to my eye, I like the combination of red and green. The green is not as bright IRL the camera seems to have picked it out more but that may be an effect from the lightsource. However I like it and at this late stage I am not going to change it. It does have no historical context nor is it connected to any film.
The white thing on the back of the cloak is a continuation of the sash around the middle of the mini and is sculpted on.

The problem with the bright red/bright green combination is that it almost inevitably reminds about Christmas motifs. Thus, it lends whatever miniature it\'s used on a sort of jolliness that can be most unfortunate sometimes.

But, if you like the colours then there\'s no need to bother about that! :) It\'s nice to see you seem to have overcome your eye problems once and for all! This is good stuff, Tim!

Hi again here is another update on Leonidas, quite pleased with the way it has gone so far. A couple of places that need a bit more attention but he is coming along nicely all the same.

I had thought the base may be a little modern in style for the mini but now I look at it I think it works very well.
I am finally coming towards the end of the mini. One or two things to iron out on the main piece and also the arm with the shield to do. Also a couple of small details on the main piece as well like the tassel on the spear.
To answer the question about the red and green, first the red is a base of Scab Red this is just to give the next coat something to cover over, the next is Red Gore, and then I mixed Blood Red in increasing amounts for each highlight stage until I was using pure Blood Red. To finish off I added a little Bleached Bone to the Red for a couple of highlight stages.
The Green was just a 50/ 50 mix of Dark Angels Green and Snot Green, I just highlighted up to Snot Green and then again for a couple of highlight stages I added a little Bleached Bone to the Snot Green. The only difference this time is I glazed the cloak with some heavily diluted green ink, not the current GW one but the older ink that is no longer in production though I don\'t see that stage as being essential. As I say one or two little tweaks here and there to the main piece but all in all it is coming along nicely and I am quite pleased with it, I hope you like it as well.

Great look

Excellent. Not put off at all by the red-green.

It might just be the lighting, but the flesh tone on the hand seems very \"orange\" to me.
It jumps out...at least in the pics.
The overall mood and palette would seem to call for a flesh that\'s a little more... washed out ? \"gray\" ?

Love the bone undertunic and the metals.

Your paintings great, the transitions are flawless, the sculpt is lovely, but I liked it so much more before you put that green down.
Still horses for courses, thanks for posting the wip.

although it does kind of look like hes \" ahhhhhhhh what the hell happened to my left hand ohhhh gawd\". might be just me.....
