Miniatures close-ups

We are becoming increasingly sure that Sebastian has sold his soul to get uber painting skills... ;)

Seriously these close ups are very useful. Particularly in the case of NMM, in many cases you can see what are quite abrupt changes in colour (intentionally of course), it is these that (when viewed from further away than a gnats whisker), create the illusion of metallic reflection.

Hey! :) Thanks for the comments

About the camera and the picture I submitted. First it is actually a reduced image... the original is 3456x2304 while this one is 2419x1613. The picture was not taken by me.. it was a friend who used two combine lenses (one tele and one wide-angle) to gain a super close-up mode. I can\'t find a tutorial right now.. but it should be doable for anyone with a digital slr and several lenses. :)

My own camera is a sony cybershot P100 so it\'s not able to do so good close-ups.. I don\'t even have a super-macro mode.

Maybe these are more helpful? These are done with my camera. Sorry about the specks of dust... and the blob besides Gandalf head was a speck of dust on my ccd.. but it\'s gone now somehow :)

EDIT: DANG! Forgot to do levelling on them.. ah maybe later. These are pretty much straight from my camera except some sharpening.

Guys, now THIS is a close-up

DSCN0010.jpg

Done about six years and taken when I was messing about trying to figure out the macro on my (then) new camera

Hope I didn\'t scare any small children.

That is a pretty in your face, I\'m gonna git you picture, but I think for me it\'s the unearthly stare of freakishly large Celeborn that\'s the dream haunter...

I\'ll do the best I can here, not sure how these\'ll look as I think I\'m topping out my Sony camera. Here are a couple I\'ve been too lazy to put in my gallery yet:

The top picture is an old Ral Partha Firbolg(a giant race of some sort). I picked it up for a buck at my local store\'s swap fair. I think it\'s slightly taller than an space marine for reference.

Wow, the sword on the firblog is so smooth and shiny looking even at that size, impressive!

Cool, I remember those old Ral Partha giants. I especially like the Firebolg\'s belt. The green oxidation is perfect. The wolfen is gorgeous too. I can\'t believe the transition from gray to black on his muzzle is still indistinguishable in the extreme close-up.

Thanks for the kind words.

I\'ve come so far, but looking at other people\'s stuff, I can see I still have so far to go(luckily this site is a wellspring of inspiration.):)

You asked for it!

Photos of my Warrior Priest, all I did was a quick levels adjustment and cropping of the raw images from my 8.1 megapixel camera. The first shot was taken from closer to the mini, and depth of field suffered slightly as a result. It\'s way more obvious at this scale than when it\'s shrunk!
