A couple of questions.

Wow! This thread is a real revelation. It\'s truly incredible how well you guys paint. I\'m in awe. As I\'m always looking to improve as a mini-painter (and person) I have some questions I\'d like to ask. (Hey, why not seize this rare opportunity.)

Hi Alexi Z, it\'s amazing the way that you paint the eyes! I never even conceived it possible to paint a black circle (iris/pupil?) then paint the eye color (in this black circle) followed by the center black dot (pupil/iris, I forget?) and then a reflective dot of white. Seriously amazing! This is so tiny. No wonder the eyes (as well as the rest) of your minis look so darn cool. Do you use a magnifier to do the eyes this way? I\'ll be trying that next time I paint eyes. You\'ve set a new standard! How did you achieve the sheer (see through) clothing? I\'d really appreciate it if you could share this painting technique with me and the rest of the guys. Thanks in advance. BTW, love your work!

I\'ve got to add. Hey Automaton, like Alexi Z you\'re also painting some of the coolest looking minis around. Congrats on all of your success at the Aussie Golden Demons. You deserve it! Mighty and inspirational painting mate!

On a last note of genuine compliments. Hi Avelorn, man I had no idea. Awesome painting man! I agree with Alexi Z. You\'re very brave to go in that close. It still looks great at that resolution.

Between you all, I\'ll have to get a painting session going tomorrow. You\'ve all re-kindled my enthusiasm and thirst to grow as a mini-painter.

Thanks guys!

Yours truly,
Chris

Heck I can\'t even see close up enough to paint details anymore like the eyes Alexi does let alone want to take pictures of them.

Oh to have the eyes of a 20 year old again..

I guess I could take to painting under a microscope.

Natalyas & the Aqua Marine are really amazing ,the paint jobs are out of this world!(though whoever sculpted the female needs some quiet words spoken to them about anatomy, that little lady has one massive head ).
Keep up the great work.
GOD bless ..............VINCENTI

I think it\'s good to see close-ups like this because then it\'s more apparent how things are done. And, for the record, being able to see how things are done is not really to be seen as flaws, IMO. A flaw is when something is not as good as the surrounding areas, something that the painter could have done better. Semantics, maybe, but anyway... I don\'t see it as an imperfection if you can see, in an extreme close-up, how the painter has achieved something.

Very nice! The eyes are amazingly well done. That woman has a massive head though HAHA!

I like the marine too, except he looks like something blew shrapnel all over him :D

We\'ve had a similar thread before (not that we shouldn\'t have another)

Sweet...

Please keep the images coming! It\'s both eductional and inspirational to see some of these fanastic paint jobs up close.
It\'s really nice to see the blending work, although I still can\'t really tell how you do it Alexi, so I\'m just going to say magic :)

Get yourself down (or in your case up) to Salute 2007 Werner Klocke will be there. :D
Although proportionally the head/faces do look wrong, in terms of the miniatures themselves they actually look right.

Yep, Werner\'s stuff is a bit over the top, but in a very stylish way! Either you love it or you don\'t!

I posted a close up of my 10mm scale Ogres in the other thread but alass several hard drive crashes now means I no longer have the photo :(

However DR has kindly embassaed me over in the Vostroyan thread by posting a very large over exposed picture of the commander HERE

Not sure if I want to forgive him for this just yet :D

I think he might have the same skin problem as Svens figure :D

Not sure if I should do this ... Well, I feel fairly confident (yeah, right  ) about this one so here is a close up of one of my latest works, one of Rackham\'s Pixie Tricksters. The whole mini is about 20mm tall:

PixieTrickster_zoom.jpg

The things you see on such pictures... :(

GreenOne

I paint my thumb.
Before I started painting, I could not even Imagine that level of detail was possible.
People here can fit five degrades into a 1/4mm...
I was thinking about that while trying to reach a missing pigment in the far reaches of a mini... I started doing mental zooming, looked at the bothersome pigment, really awful from this close, looked at the lining I was working at, zoomed out to the cloth area, put the brush down and looked at the whole mini, I could not even see that pigment... Pick the brush up, zoom in, zoom in, zooooom in.... Gotcha! you little runt! lol
I could not do that before.

Anyway, I\'ll throw in a close up of my own...
A bit outdated but anyway...
