well aint this nice! :D some \'classic\' night goblins!

I really believe that GW made a huge mistake remaking those goblins.

anyways, great job! I look forward to see more progress on this one :D

Looking great! Nice postures (truly a mistake of GWs to replace them) and really good technique. I prefer goblin skin to be darker, but your choice certainly creates a vivid contrast to those nice browns. I\'m looking forward to seeing the rest.

Well, I got the next five done (you can see full pics at the top of the thread). Played around with some checkered designs and some dags on the Boss, so I hope you guys all like \'em. Now onto the next five...

post-2668-1175818424_thumb.jpg

Quareni: Thank you. I agree, not only did they remake a good thing, but the new ones are so much smaller. I am not even sure they will look decent next to the old ones.

Larre: Don\'t mind em remaking them, just doesn\'t make sense that the new ones are so tiny. I thought of using the new plastic fanatics, but since the size difference I am going to use the old metal ones.

COG: Thanks mate.

uberdark: Thanks. I have always enjoyed layering over other styles.

Absolutely stunning, probably the best looking gobbos ive seen! Normally when I paint Orkskin I go for a much less vibrant shade, more akin to the Black Orks, but these look simply beautiful! May have to rethink my 40k ork army ???

Ok, so I\'ve got another five done.... whew. Only five more and this regiment will be done. Only 32 more nightgoblins (5 spear, 20 bow, 1 Big Boss, 1 Shaman, and 3 fanatics, and 2 Squig Herders), 1 Troll, 1 Snotling Base, and 2 Squigs to go. And it\'s only been a month... Maybe I should stop counting...
Added some updates at the top of the thread to include full pic of the 15 spear, a full 360 pic of the night goblin spear boss, a pic of the Troll after primering, and a pic of the snotling base being built (I have always wanted to do this since first seeing that Mushroom King)...

And here are pics of the five just completed.

ilynx: Thanks mate. I have been reconsidering my recipe for skin, though I think my gobbos will always be bright. But, for my orcs I am contemplating more of an olive (those will be far in the future I\'m afraid)...

Larre: Thanks. These comments really help to keep it going...

that idea with the skins are good.

but I must say that I\'m a bit sceptic to the ideas of combining reaper with GW.

anyway, it\'s your call ;)

btw... I love those goblins you have painted! simply beautiful

I really like what you\'ve done with the gobbos, I have a bunch of the old ones as well, I like the new ones, but my army had mostly old ones so I didn\'t want to mix and match. I do like the new ones though... It always seemed off to me that a night goblin was almost shoulder height to a human... I like the idea of the mushroom theme, but I personally think the mushroom king stands out too much, and that its more a mushroom king with a couple snotlings and not so much a snotling stand. While I like the reaper troll, but I really really like the new GW trolls so I\'d personally rather try to keep it in the family if you know what I mean (keeping it tourney legal too). Some really solid work for sure.

P.s. I\'m rlangner on WoM

Ok, not so much of an update as a blast from the past. Just to show that painting takes time to learn (and I am definitely still learning), I have included some pictures of miniatures that I painted a while back.

These guys were completed between 7 and 10 years ago, back when my only reference material on how to paint was White Dwarf Magazines, and it seemed like every miniature I saw had a really cheesy green color sanded base and included really bright red and yellow colors. That is a far cry from my style today.

This next group of night goblins with bows was completed about 2 years ago, so I hope it shows a bit of improvement in the past 2 years, a lot of which I have spent learning new techniques and a lot more time painting. Anyway, these guys are going to get a makeover and will actually be my second set of 20 night goblins (with a few minor adjustments anyway...)

post-2668-1177258609_thumb.jpg

Hope you enjoyed that blast from the past. I should have that first unit of 20 spearmen finished soon (just have to do the reds, wood, and basing), and an update on the troll is coming soon (I\'ll need to know if the direction I am going with him is working). And, I have also been putting the Night Goblin hero together, and a bit more work has been done on the snotling/mushroom king base.

Larre: I was a bit skeptic when I first started doing it, until I realized that my army will never see a grand tournament so GW rules won\'t apply. The strange thing about me is that I absolutely love the game of warhammer, and the fantasy setting that GW has created... so whenever I see cool miniatures no matter who created them I automatically start mentally filing them into an army category and trying to figure out how I could use them to represent something in warhammer.

emopainterguy (rlanger): Good to see a familiar face over here. With the mushroom king, he stands out now but I think in the future he will stand out less. I say this only because I will hopefully turn this 500 point army into a huge horde one day, and then I will be able to add more snotling bases that can interact with this one. About the troll, I think the new ones are OK, just not individuals if that makes sense. If I want to add to the unit later, I don\'t want them to all look the same as I view trolls as more chaotic and different from each other than how GW portrays them in there miniature line.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate your support with this thread, as it definitely keeps me going.

Ok, got that troll arm done, at least enough to get some opinion I hope. I like the putrid color of it. What I need advice on though is: I want the softer skin (belly, under the chin) to be a lighter color - what color should I go with? Also, I want the tougher skin (elbows, shoulder pads) to come out a bit darker, what color should I go with here?

i think imo that a lighter version of the arm
color should be the belly like adding a tan to the arm color and blending it to the arm color. maybe, maybe not.
kind of like the LOTR trolls.
oh and great improvement not only from 10 years ago but the 2 year ones also. no offense but a really great improvement:eek:
and also the last five gobbos you did. whats the four gobbos on the single base doing? not fammilar enough to know i guess.

Ok, finished the spear regiment (for a complete photo check out the top of the thread). Also, added some mushrooms to the regiment, hope you like them.

And, here are the last five (after taking pictures I realized that I forgot to do there noses, so I will have to go back and do that)...

post-2668-1177786704_thumb.jpg

And here is one more of the fanatic guy so you can see what is going on inside of there. It is really crowded, but basically he has a huge ball and chain (or rope in this case) and is about to start swinging it after consuming a jug of shroom juice...

post-2668-1177786809.jpg

COG: Thanks for the tip on the skin mate, and for the compliment on my improvement. As far as the four gobbos, with warhammer\'s Night Goblins, apparently they are addicted to mushroom juice that they manufacture to induce hallucinations. So, when in combat, some of the night goblins will drink this stuff, and become instantly crazed, breaking out a huge ball and chain and wreaking havok through enemy units.

Ok, so a bit of work done on the snotling/mushroom king. Keep in mind, there will be three more snotlings that will be staged on the ground once I get far enough along to put them on there. Let me know if you guys think he is going in the right direction.
