My BT Sergeant... or, how I learned to hate photographing black.

Well, third mini of the \"Send the Howells to Camp\" series is on the block.

Black Templar Sergeant

Obligatory Auction Link

The axe is supposed to look like one of those globes where you touch the outside and an electrical arc forms from the middle to your finger. I really tried to make the plasma gun look \"hot\" too.

Getting just these photos was murder! Even now some of the colors are saturated to the point of being white. The templar symbol is a good example... it\'s outlined in gold, and in places the gold bleeds into the black in the photo.
The Ultramarine sergeant didn\'t do half bad... $34! For someone to want to spend money on something I\'ve painted is hard enough to grasp sometimes, so I\'m pretty pleased overall.

Anyway, I went for something a little more.... dramatic? Black Templars seem dramatic to me. Anyway, let me know what you think!

He looks pretty good to me despite your photography troubles (I\'ve just put the finishing touches to a SM Chaplain so I\'ll see how I fare with photographing black soon too. Not looking forward to it now!) and I like the overall look of the mini. He is rather dramatic, as you say.

The blade and the osl from it look pretty good, but I think that some finer and crisper white arcs across it would strengthen the static electricity look.

The plasma is well done too, but there are a few things you may want to think about here if your aim is getting cash for the mini:

1 - Plasma is blue in the fluff unless I am very much mistaken. I know it’s an artistic choice, but it could impact on the wide appeal to fluff buffs!

2 - Most people are probably going to buy him as a gaming piece and use him as a sergeant in a unit as you haven\'t done the other vets. I think quite a few Marine players would rather take a safe bolt pistol over the expensive and slightly hazardous plasma pistol, so why not paint a hand with that too and make them switchable with magnets, that way they have the choice.

These things don’t damage the job on the mini, but could net you a bit more cash.
