Check it out folks!
I used my digital photography skills honed by taking pictures of minis to take a picture of my wife!
Why so excited?!

Because my picture was selected as a finalist in the Smithsonian Magazine amateur photography contest!

You can check out the photo and the competition here:

Third Annual Smithsonian Photo Contest

Vince: Serious kudos for the selection, and the best of luck.

Like Klute, I too like the Navajo Silversmith.
(Thanks to the writing of Tony Hillerman I\'ve had the chance to gain a very small understanding of the Navajo People. (The Dineh)).

It\'s always interesting how some of the most mundane scenes captured at odd angles can be so interesting. Congrats, Vince, on demonstrating how a camera can completely change the perspective on a scene.

Good luck to you!

Thanks everyone,
and no, it\'s not a joke. It\'s not my fault they chose to post the contest finalists on April 1.
Yeah, the bullet hole guy got to me too. And as for best in show, I don\'t think that\'s even coming from my category.

Very, very  vince! Best of luck. I really like the shot, too. I particularly like ones that alter your perspective on things, that turn everyday, \"real\" things into almost abstracts. Nice job.

Just a quick question

Vince - what type of camera do you use? is it digital, because you photo dosent look pixelated at all!

I\'m actually starting photography and am actually taking a class on it next semester, thats why i was curious!

My camera is a 1.3 megapixel Sony Mavica FD-88 circa 1995.

I\'m sure that far better things have been made in the ensuing decade, and you simply cannot get this kind of camera anymore. It\'s already nearly obsolete.
By that I mean it records on a 3.5 inch floppy. I have to keep my old computer around just so I can load my pics because the new computer doesn\'t have a floppy drive.
I will keep it though, because I have not seen anything as convenient as the floppy system.

Now when I really want to get artsy I use my Yashika dual lens reflex camera (circa 1950\'s/60\'s - I need to find the exact age).

I have one of those as well Vince, but mine stopped working for some reason...You wouldn\'t want it for parts would you?
