Need a new printer - recommendations?

So my old printer (Dell photo 924) ate itself :(
(Some cog or spring worked itself into the feeding mechanism and shagged it)

So I now need a new printer :/

Can anyone recommend any?
I would be using it for a variety of tasks; printing letters and standard text documents
printing decent quality photos

So I need a printer with the following specs:
colour / black cartridges
at least a 1200 dpi for the photos

it\'d be nice to have one of those with the scanner included like the 924, but not essential.

It\'d also be nice to have ink that I don\'t have to sell a kidney for :rolleyes:

It\'s not urgent, but if I could have a few recommendations it\'d be appreciated :p

It\'s a good starting point and If it were me in that position I would seriously be considering investing in an A3 capable printer

It\'d also be nice to have ink that I don\'t have to sell a kidney for :rolleyes:

I have a photosmart, and although its not the worst thing i\'ve ever used, I dont think currently I would buy another.

The software is a few hundred meg, and the paper feed is iffy. Also, I have had the odd problem with a faulty chip on the ink, meaning it either couldn\'t read at all, or it thought it was empty when it was fairly new.

not sure what are the good options at the moment

I have an Epson 3-in-1 that I really like, and it was only about $100. I don\'t know what their latest model is, but Epson ink cartridges don\'t have any chips in them. This lowers the cost and the environmental impact of using their ink.

i have a great hp photosmart that i\'ve rigged up with a CIS (continous ink system) from these guys http://www.advancedinkjetsystems.com/

Basically for £50 i got a full CIS kit that came prefilled with over £500 worth of ink (if you compared it to the hp cartridge price).

It works great, and if i run out it costs me £5 for 100ml of ink, a typical £5 cartidge holds 5ml of ink so you can see the difference.

I now print out whenever i want rather than thinking about the cost and the quality is identical to the hp original printing.

Well nice prints...

I get my paper from: http://www.permajet.com/ and they have a nice free service for setting the correct colour profile on your printer which I found great.

Those ink systems are great for heavy users... I would really like one for my printer but don\'t really print enough to justify it.

Before you buy check out how much ink is going to cost you. HP were notorius for needing expensive HP branded ink - the 3rd party ones were crap.

I\'ve got an Epson RX560, no real hassles with it but like most printers you need decent paper to print out decent pics. Scanner is very good on it as well.

One thing I will nOt recommend is LEXMARK, replacement cartridges................ don\'t make me laugh.......... it\'s cheaper to get a new printer.
