A method I\'ve been using lately is very simple:
On black primer
1: Paint in the eyes with Vallejo Ivory, put in pupils with thin black line. Tidy up any Ivory overpaint with black.
2: Thin down Vallejo Brown Sand and with a good brush (size 1) paint the whole face with a thin coat. (It\'ll look slightly Yellow at first ..don\'t worry)
Repeat to get an even coverage, allow to dry.
3: Dilute either Burnt Cadmium Red or GW Dark Flesh 1 paint 20 water. Paint in the shadow areas, ie under the eyeybrows, the bags of the eyes, the corners of the eyes and down the sides of the nose, the arches from Nostril to corner of mouth, under the bottom lip and under the jaw line.
4: Tidy up with the Brown Sand picking up on the highlight areas.
5: Highly dilute Vallejo Cork Brown and wash into depressed areas of the face, going over the Dark Flesh. This will add a little warmth to the face.
6: Mix a little Vallejo Ivory into the Brown Sand and start highlighting.
7: Repeat but reduce the size of the Highlight areas.
8: Finish the highlights with pure Ivory (thinned) on the tip of the Nose, Cheekbones, Tips of the ears and the centre of the eyebrows. Use the dilute Dark flesh to emphasie the bottom lip.
For Elven or very pale skin omit the shadow washes, just make sure that your initial coats have good coverage and no blotchy patches.
I\'ve used the same basis using Vallejo Cork Brown as the base coat and shadow washes of Chocolate Brown, and Burnt Cadmium Brown to obtain a slighly Asian skin tone on one of Steve Buddle\'s Coolmini Amazon\'s.
