Also, please keep in mind that there are more pics of the herd posted further back in the thread, so if you have the time or want to see more pictures check them out.

dave: Your wish is my command mate.
Lyuun: I am not sure if fast is the right word mate... not even to 1000 points yet and I have been working on them since 2007... lol.

I like those little squigs, especially with their little stains on their skins. They add one more funny touch to your army.

They're fantastic Mousekiller, the Squig skins have come out fantasticly, they almost make the Goblins look a bit plain & flat!

I'm really impressed, my favourite unit of yours so far I reckon.

Trying to find a niggle :D so I'll say the tiny touch of green weathering/verdigris inside the cymbal looks great, I'd like to see a touch on the upper back of them too. :phew: found one!

Cheers, B.

In case this is your first time checking into a thread (I have done updates on Dwarfs and Ogres so far since coming back)... I haven't painted anything in over a year... but I fully intend to jump back in head first.

Ok, so just to give you guys a glimpse of what I have on the table for orcs and goblins (as character wise they are still my favorite army to paint), here is a quick pic of Skarsnik. I have not done a lot to modify him, except stuffing some body parts down his mouth. Also, at some point in the near future I will update the beginning of the thread to reflect what is actually done and actual points values (I love the new rules... they really suit my random style of army painting)... Finishing the ogre tyrant and dwarf slayer and the couple of units on the table remain my priority, but this guy has so much going on I am sure to get some progress on him as I get bored with the other projects.

Been a week or so since my last update on any of the logs, so I am posting an update to Skarsnik. As far as the other projects go...

First rank of dwarf slayers is almost done... getting into the metal bits now which always seem to take forever. Also, lots of little details in these guys, so I definitely don't want to rush them and miss something :)
Third rank of skeletons are almost done... I think I get the most bored painting these because they seem so... plain I suppose... all bone and metal.
Fourth and last rank of Handgunners are primed and ready to paint, but haven't started yet.
First rank of Beasts of Chaos Gors are base coated.
Third rank of Chaos Marauders are being assembled.
First rank of Ogres are almost done... lots of fiddley bits to be painted on these.

In any case, on with Skarsnik... pretty much just the base of the skin is done... haven't done any washes yet, which will help to bring some variety into the skin itself.

Anyway, hope to have more updates soon!

Good to see you back on here!

Night Goblins are my favorite creatures you are working on. I love how your conversions look.

Just a small update... definitely not as much time as I would have liked to have spent painting the last two weeks. Oh well...

Anyway, did the robes. I think the red is going to need a lot more work. Also, started the scales on Gobbla... though I have to admit, they are shaped a little strange, hard to figure where to apply the highlights (either from the center out, which did not seem to work, or just highlight the outside and let the shade be in the center).

For the other armies:

Empire: On the third highlight of red... should be finishing that side soon and then will start on the yellow.
Ogres: These were all in various stages of completion from the work I had done on them last year, so just trying to get the front rank all up to the same level. Worked on the striped pants (purple done, need to do the Khaki). Also, did a lot of the wraps and leather bits... trying a reddish leather on these ones.
Dwarfs: Haven't really touched these guys since starting the green in there hair. Probably subconsciously waiting to get the empire guys to the point where I do the blue ammo rounds to do the blue body paint.
Mortals of Chaos: Actually pulled them off the shelf... did a bit of placement on the base that I had constructed last year. Should be ready to pin and prime soon.
Beasts of Chaos: Nothing, enough said.

Assembly: So, this week I brought the hobby to the living room (to the chagrin of my wife). Usually we watch an hour or two of TV at the end of the day before going to bed and rinse repeating the next day... so I thought it would be wise to do some simple construction and multi task this quality time with my loving wife. No really hard to pin models, just plastic kits, finecast (my first), and some forgeworld stuff that "she" was nice enough to get me for christmas. Anyway, assembled quite a bit (next to my poor showing in painting). 2 Ogre Kingdom Mournfang Cavalry (why only two models in the box is beyond me... at least give us enough models for a command group), Tomb Kings Necrosphynx (I really like this model), Ogre Kingdoms Golgfag Maneater (first finecast model... not bad except the items that should be rigid are a bit flimsy, like the sword... why not just stick to plastics GW?), Tomb Kings Apophas, Tomb Kings Lichepriest, Chaos Lord on Manticore (I have to admit that the manticore is a bit silly looking, but the package comes with enough bits for two full rider variants, so the other rider will likely get mounted on a reaper dragon down the road), Ogre Kingdoms Iron Blaster, Forgeworld Lietpold the Black (very nice model), Forgeworld Kazyk the Befouled on Rotbeast (not as good of quality and came missing the right arm bit), Arachnorak Spider with Flinger (this one was quite the construction project to put together, but definitely worth the time), Finecast Herald of Tzeentch (same issue, his rod looks limp), and 5 Seekers of Slaanesh.

ands0itbegins: Thanks mate! Probably still the army I have the most "fun" with.

So, here is the promised update on Skarsnik. Started to re-hit the scales, found a few examples online that were decent (could not find any that blew me away, which makes me think that the scales are just a bit odd). Also, started on the weaponry, still more work to do with aging, scratching, and generally beating it up. Also, did the black portion of the robes.

So, what else is going on...

Skaven: My newest army to start... the Skaven Warlord on Brood Horror from Forge World. He is all put together, just doing the last sculpting bits for the base and should be ready for his cameo, then on to primer.

Mortals of Chaos: Primed the third rank of marauders and got the first layer of skin and metallics done.

Dwarves: Almost complete on them, just need to kick myself in the arse to get em done.

Vamps: :(

Daemons: Will post a pic soon on what the Daemon Prince looks like as I get ready to re-start him.

Beasts: Not much since last update. Need to get at least a test model done :)

Ogres: Haven't touched them much lately, though every time I sit down they are staring right at me.

Assembly: Not much here... finished the first two of three Bloodletters mounted on Juggernauts. Spending most of the "quality time" in front of the TV with the Skaven Warlord base.

Thats it for now :)

I love this whole army. Definitely one of the best night goblin armys I've seen. I really like all the little little things that you add to the models like the scars on the squigs. Nice job keep up the good work

The greatest goblin to ever grace the world with his cunning wickedness... I give you Skarsnik, Warlord of the Eight Peaks.

I am pretty satisfied with how this model came out, and I don't say that much about my stuff. I hope you enjoy him as much as my shelf will :)

RottenCotton: Thanks mate, I will try to keep them coming :)

THE STABBER - GOBLIN SPEAR CHUKKA
After the battle of Stonefist Hold, and after witnessing the devastation caused by the dwarven Bolt Throwers during the battle, Skarsnik had some of his brighter gits scrounge together the materials from the devastated Hold to build one for his army. Though many of his forces were routed after the counter attack by Belegar Ironhammer, he managed to drag this and a small amount of other bits of treasure back to the Red Moon Tribes stronghold.

Manufacturer: Games Workshop.

Completed: 25 DEC 2014, all in one day as part of the ADVENT CHALLENGE on the warpath.

And at CMON: SPEAR CHUKKA

marjedi: Thanks so much, that means a lot!

Kretcher: They should all be cuddleable.

Fangar’s Fangs, 5 Goblin Wolf Rider Elite

Fangar and his Fangs are the scourge of the Eight Peaks. Fangar has built a reputation for his brutality, and uncanny fearlessness for a goblin. Having turned some of the largest, most vicious mountain wolves to his will and equally some of the largest, most vicious goblins that he could find, Fangar has created a terrifying force to be reckoned with. He and his brood have sworn absolute fealty to Skarsnik, and have proved critical in almost every battle. Skarsnik even uses them as debt collectors, or to travel to tribes that appear to forget that they belong to the Warlord of the Eight Peaks. Fangar has single handedly slain many uppity tribal chiefs just because Skarsnik thought they were getting out of line. The fact that they are now with Skarsnik at the Red Moon Tribes camp has definitely put Skeezer on edge.

Manufacturer: Gamezone Miniatures.

Complete: 6 JAN 2015

CMON: GOBLIN WOLF RIDERS

Skarsnik, Warlord of the Eight Peaks

Skarsnik, self-proclaimed and fully recognized Warlord of the Eight Peaks, Chieftain of the Crooked Moon Tribe, and Overlord of the Red Moon Tribe, the Yellow Tooth’s, the Crooked Tooth’s, and many other tribes in the valleys of the Eight Peaks and the surrounding areas. Also known as the King in the Mountain, the Cunning One, Dwarfs Bane and Skaven Slayer. To some in the early days he was known as RuntGit, a name no one dares to use anymore. Unusually intelligent, sly, and an expert tactician for a goblin, Skarsnik has earned his place in Goblin society.

Skarsnik began life as a leader. Clawing his way from the birthing field with the rest of his litter, he led them throughout the caverns, foraging for food and other meager means of existence. One day the young goblins stumbled into the layer of the Goblin tribe called the Backstairs Boyz, subservient to the larger Crooked Moon Tribe, and were immediately enslaved and put to work doing the menial tasks of the tribe such as foraging for mushrooms in the dankness of the moldy sub caverns. Many years passed with Skarsnik performing this labor, with even his original litter growing much larger and moving on to other tasks. Known as the Runt, the one thing that was constant no matter how many new spawnlings were thrown into the cavers with him, one thing remained constant, Skarsnik was in charge. This did not go unnoticed within the tribe, and he was plucked from the meager task to be charged with a larger band of goblins and a much further range of foraging. Now bearing the now hated name RuntGit, Skarsnik began to impress even the Tribes leader, Tarkit Fing-Finger and Master Shaman Duffskull by finding and locating many rare items. But while he pleased his masters on one hand, on the other he plotted ways to gain more power. Secretly freeing the Skaven captive, Skreekrik Yellowtooth, he proceeded to also help the one time leader of Clan Mors re-establish his hold over his burrow. With this new secret alliance, Skarsnik was able to bring a massive amount of wealth to the Backstairs Boyz, and his favor with the tribal leadership continued to grow. But, Skarsnik grew complacent in his dealings, and he was found out by another sneaky git, Snotruk. Tarkit was enraged upon finding out that Skarsnik had dealt with their enemy, and immediately ordered his death. But not only was Skarsnik incredibly cunning, he was also extremely lucky. It was at this exact moment that a small band of Dwarves descended upon the tribe, and Skarsnik was able to escape into the river where he quickly floated away.
Washing up on the outskirts of Karak Eight Peaks, Skarsnik was taken prisoner by a band of Goblin Wolf Riders, known as the Griffs Boyz and led by the Great Grillzer-Griff Makiki da Cunning. Something about the ragged goblin found on the rocks intrigued Griff, and so he caged Skarsnik in a small bird cage, which fit Skarsnik just enough that his arms and legs dangled from the bars. Griff would keep him caged for years, making him sing to him in the evenings. Skarsnik used this time to observe the trading patterns of the Wolf Riders, who showed quite a knack for dealing with a multitude of tribes across the Badlands. The tribe traded with Ogres, Orcs, and Goblins primarily, but also dabbled in trade with Skaven, humans, and the Dwarfs (outskirts anyway, no proper dwarf would have deal with Goblins). But always the tribe knew what the different outposts wanted or needed, and would provide these key items to them. The Griff carried the cage with him everywhere, and Skarsnik used the time to learn the languages of the other races. Finally, after a chance encounter with a Dwarf dealing, the Griff witnessed Skarsniks grasp of the Dawi language and realized that his RuntBird could be put to better use as a spy and negotiator.

Over the next few years, Skarsnik rose in prestige with the Griff Boyz. But he never forgot those years in the cage, and through cunning dealings and alliances was soon in a position to make his move. Over the years he had plotted the “accidental” deaths of goblins who opposed him, until one night the drunken and overly trusting Griff passed out in a tent, with only himself and his one-time prisoner. Skarsnik quickly made his move, slicing the Griffs throat and the next day he claimed the right to lead the tribe. By this time, no one of any standing was left to oppose him and he was readily accepted as the new Chief. Longing for the caverns of his birth, he maneuvered the Wolf Riders back to the his lost home.

With this taste of power, Skarsnik began to realize he was meant to rule. Using the Wolf Riders as his core, he began to conquer all of the tribes of the Eight Peaks, folding both Goblin and Orc tribes under his leadership until only the Crooked Moons remained. Leaving the army camped, Skarsnik wormed his way into the deeper caverns of the tribe, but was caught by his one-time rival and now Boss of the Backstairs Boyz, Snotrik who threw him into a pit of cave squigs to be eaten. Skarsniks luck would not fail him now, for in the pit was one of the largest cave squigs Skarsnik had ever seen. It also happened that Skarsnik, during his times running the runtlings through the tunnels, had saved this Squig from death when it was just a hatchling. Somehow the huge Squig remembered the smell of its savior, and immediately beat off the remaining squigs. At this same moment, the Wolf Boys came raging into the cavern, searching for their boss who had been gone too long. Feeding Snotrik to his newfound pet, Skarsnik immediately dubbed the creature Gobbla. This act, and the fact the Skaven clans had recently beaten most of the tribes in the area into submission, secured almost all of the greenskins under Skarsniks leadership.

The armies of Skarsnik were now put to work harrying the Skaven who controlled the hold of Eight Peaks. Using his relationship with Skeekrik Yellowtooth, who had himself earned some prestige within Clan Mors, he lured Skeekrik and other key leaders of the clan to a meeting, where he assassinated them. Without this critical leadership, the superior numbers of the Skaven were soon defeated in the halls of Karak Eight Peaks. Emerging from captivity, Master Shaman Duffskull raised the new ruler up, and the hall chanted the name of their leader, “Skarsnik, Warlord of the Eight Peaks!”

Over the next years, the Dwarfs returned to Karak Eight Peaks in force, under the leadership of Belegar Ironhammer and at great loss to their numbers regained the Hold. While the goblin tribes were distracted with this, the Skaven slowly infiltrated the deeper caverns once more, under the cunning leadership of Queek Headtaker. Soon, a virtual stalemate would arrive in the valley between the three races.

It was on the eve of yet another assault against the hold that the destiny of Skarsnik and his tribes would change forever. Sitting in his command cave, Skarsnik indulged in a mushroom brew that had been delivered by Skeezer’s Red Moon tribe. Of course, Skarsnik knew this to be a bribe, mostly to keep him from having to send any of his tribe to help support the constant assaults of the Eight Peaks. But the gold was coming in, as were a variety of other tokens from the tribe. As Skarsnik indulged in the brew, in the back of his mind he knew he would have to put the chieftan in his place soon, lest he assume that the wealth he had truly belonged to him and the Red Moons, but this would be a matter for another day. Eventually drifting off to sleep, Skarsnik awoke in a cold sweat to the presence of another, one whom he did not immediately recognize but at the same time seemed so familiar. Immediately slashing out with a hidden dagger, the blade went right through the figure as if it was not there at all.
“Who are you to enter my domain?” demanded Skarsnik. As soon as the words were out of his mouth, the figure erupted into a greenish flame that lit up the cave. Behind the figure, squatted a massive wyvern, surrounded by the same ethereal flame. “I am the resurrected. The re-incarnation of Gork and Mork, I am he that you will be commanded by!” The cave shook with the force of the last words, and though Skarsnik was not easily rattled, he found himself cowering before the presence of this immense being. “What would you have of me?”

And with this, in the middle of the night Skarsnik gathered all of his forces and marched on the Stonefist Clan, to retrieve a chest that held so much value that the Gods Gork and Mork would send such a creature of immense power. Although the members of the Stonefist Clan put up a valiant effort to defend their keep, the overwhelming numbers of the force Skarsnik bore down upon them with was too much, and the hold quickly fell. This victory would be short lived, however, as Belegar Ironhammer had finally caught up to them and quickly engaged the army in a counter attack, scattering much of Skarniks Horde and sending him fleeing. But it was enough time for Skarsnik to discover that the chest had been carried south, and he knew just the tribe that he could go to in order to get appropriate reinforcements, the Red Moons.
