Sorry, I needed to get that out.
I have JUST started painting my brand new lovely imperial pilot (Thanks DR)

But not having painted resin before I have hit a stumbling block...

I know you\'re supposed to use hot soapy water before you even spray on undercoat - which is the first thing I did after taking it out of it\'s plastic packet.

Maybe I didn\'t use soapy or hot enough water, or maybe I should\'ve sprayed more undercoat on, but all my paint seems to acting like washes!

It\'s just running and pooling and.. And... <sobs> Nooo

I don\'t know how to strip resin either!

PLEASE - I need some help on this guys \'n\' gals. So much so I\'ve come online at 3:30am (After several attempts at gettin paint to stay on) to ask this question.

I would imagine (and I might be wrong) that anything safe to use for stripping plastic will be safe to use to strip resin.

I again vouch for Dawn Power Dissolver...if you can get it in your area (I\'m not 100% sure of your location).

I can tell you from experience, Dan. Don\'t use chemicals to clean that resin. If you paints don\'t come off with soap and water then just leave em. FW uses many different mixtures of resin. What works for some may melt your mini to slag.

Nearly everything I found said to test it with a scrap piece of the resin first. Experimentation looks to be your only resort!

I was going to search for another thread that was here about a week or two ago, but I think that was on how to remove superglue (cyanoacrylate). Hmm. Both have \"acryl\" in the name. So it may be worth your time. I suggested WD-40 since I KNOW it dissolves superglue. Don\'t know what the results were.

Unless FW uses some specific resin I would say do as you do with plastic minis.

I\'ve never had any trouble with my illyade minis that way. So far the only difference I\'ve found between plastic and resin in terms of handeling the mini is that plastic bends whereas resin breaks.

OK, so I\'ll try just using hot soapy water to strip him clean again...

Is there anything I should do to make sure the same doesn\'t happen again...?

I don\'t want to have so many layers of undercoat that detail is lost!

Dan: from what you say it sounds as if the release agent is particularly strong and needs to be cleaned off a little more effectivley.
Couple of Options to try:
Dettol Anti-baterial Multi-Action 4 in 1 surface cleaner,
Mr Muscle Glass cleaner, (Much the same as Dettol)
Or failing that good old toothpaste and a toothbrush and a liberal application of Elbow grease.
Make sure that the figure is properly rinsed and dried.

One of those those should get you to a place where the paint/primer won\'t go running everywhere.

Did you rinse it well with cold water? AFTER the said soaping?

DAN, don\'t use gw primer for a start.
second, use a carprimer put on in thin coats, it will adear to the resin without problems allowing you to base coat and then begin.

I have found (quite by accident) that after washing and rinsing a resin mini a coat of Testors Dull Coat works a treat at giving future paints a good base to adhere to and then I apply my undercoat.
This is how I paint all my resin minis now over a basecoat of that stuff.

I did rinse off the soap after said pre-spray scrub-a-dub-dub, yes.

Also, yes, the scrubbing water was warm - not boiling, but ot enough to warrant not keeping my fingers in for very long! ouch

The initial undercoat was GW skull white, and, I\'m afraid I\'ll have to use it again, as I want it undercoated white and it\'s the only white I have at the moment.

I do have some specialist Umbrol Matt black spray which seems quite good, but that will be used as a last resort if I have to redo it AGAIN...

I\'ve given it 2 sprays so far, and it seems fairly evenly coated - although I\'ll have to check in better light as it\'s overcast and sh*tty right now on the south coast

HOPEFULLY it\'ll be ok now - I will let you guys know. Thanks for the replies.

You\'d need to test to be on the safe side but oven cleaner is often fine for resin.

I like to use Cif for this kind of thing; same basic principle as the toothpaste.

Yeah, yeah, I agree! I hate all that name-coordination crap. Course in this case it helps us not get funny looks from Americans when we tell them we use Jif for some modelling purpose and they\'re like, \"What the f....?\" since peanut butter isn\'t exactly noted for its cleaning ability lol

Hey, nobody\'s stopping you from licking your brush after you use Cif if ya want to... might be an important lesson, like the first time you try it after use a Future/Klear wash!

On the serious side, I\'ve never had Cif scratch anything in a noticeable way.
