brush on seems to be our only alternative

Well the issue is when Dullcoat is sprayed from a can it becomes airborne.. quite a bit different from solid plastic bought by the consumer.
Hey were not far behind here in the US..all the imported putty and aresol paints from companies like Tamiya and Gunze are being discontinued from the US as they contain solvents and labeling issues right now. I had to buy Tamiya Basic putty from a seller in South Korea to get it and I would kill for some spray cans of Gunze Mr Surfacer 1200.

Wow, that sucks. Although toluene is a nasty, \'tis true. Kinda puts the kibosh on me trying to find dulcote in Germany, too. Pity I had to leave my half-full can in Sydney Airport. :~(
With toluene in plastic, it depends on what its role is. If it\'s a part of the monomer, then there\'s unlikely to be much risk of absorbing any. But if was in a plasticiser (added to make a plastic more flexible), then there\'s a good chance it could be leached out and absorbed.

banned as in not allowed to even come into the country if someone is carrying a single can?
its nasty stuff in both spray and brush-on form, but it does the job and is safe if used correctly.
if you can get the brush-on dullcote and the lacquer thinner/brush cleaner, couldn\'t you use a cheap external mix airbrush and spray it on thinned down a bit?
like the little testors air brush? or is the air canister propellent also banned?
i never tried using airbrush, but seems plausible to be able to be done. i use the brush on most times and only use the spray for LARGE objects.

Yes you could airbrush on thinned dull coat from the bottle or one of anyone of a dozen or more flat agents/clear coats on the market that are solvent based to waterbased. But the quality of the airbrush will effect the quality of the finish..The cheap airbrushes that you speak of will apply a finish equal to taking a mouthfull of finish and spitting it at your model with a straw.Not good. Im not saying one needs a high end $100.00 plus in cost air brush but a quality duel action airbrush with quality materials and thinning agent is a must have.

I haven\'t found any in Hawaii yet since we moved here... since I don\'t play with my minis and just stick them in the china cabinet, they\'ll be ok without a protective finish... won\'t they? ???

They will be just fine. Most of the top painters who compete dont apply finishes like dull coat as it does alter the finish and colors. Most try to paint with as flat of paint as they can and avoid shiny materials like Inks. If you need to flatten it, a brush on flat top coat like Micro scales micro flat will work well. its water based.
