Painting metals

Hello everyone. I\'d like to know if someone can give me some techniques to paint very realist metal, a bit like Allan Carrasco or Fernando Prieto. If you could give me some links you could have with tutorials.
Thanks to all.

Allow me to direct you to the Articles Section of this site, wherein you will find many helpful hints on all manner of modelling techniques, including painting metals. I particularly recommend Automaton\'s article for that, by the way.

Hi Cheelfy, if you check out \"The Sticky Thread\" at the top of this Painting & Conversions thread you\'ll find various links to the subject of metallic painting (I\'ve had a quick scroll through to check). By realistic do you mean using metallic paints or are you refering to appearance in which case good NMM can work nicely? Hope you find what you\'re after & post a picture of what you\'re working on in a WIP thread, you can always ask specific questions that way. Welcome to CMON :) B.

Edit: Of course Amazon Warrior might beat me to it :rolleyes:lol

I do not now of links but I can give you a tip. Try using a drop of glaze medium when you paint colors onto metals. I find that it helps the paint go on smoothly and it helps the paint cover sort of like an ink. You can build up transparent layer until you are happy with the result.

Allan acutally made a video tutorial through miniature mentor. It is $25 to download and he paints a weapon using metallics. You may want to check it out. www.miniaturementor.com

I work a lot with metallics myself, and while I haven\'t been doing it for quite as long as others here, I have to say that the key to a realistic looking piece are the washes/glazes. Here\'s an article from this site that explains it better than I can:

Vallejo model air metallics help with getting that smooth base coat for the washes and glazes.

Thin washes of your \"recesses\" colour over the base metal colour until the recesses are as dark as you want them, then highlight with thinned metalic colours, and if you mess the highlighting you can put more dark washes over it and start again.
