I'm no hardened veteran like Autumn Leaves or others, but I think all the Champions of Bone would be better off as Chosen of Styr.
The number of wounds you will restore don't justify the price, especially in Raider units.
Swarming with Chosen of Styr like that you have a good chance of keeping every enemy unit weakened at all times.
Weakening an enemy will likely save you more than the two wounds you get back from the occasional failed morale test.
Glad to hear of your success not bending the knee!

Hey Badger,

My only problem with the list is that even under 1.5 rules, Raiders are too fragile to be assigned healing attachments. Even if you survive a charge and manage to get a Panic Test heal with a Follower of Bone, chances are you are still in danger of losing the unit from a second attack (and inevitably failed Panic Test). You could put a mix of Styr's Chosen (to put out Weakened tokens) and Dweller Alphas (to put Panic on charge targets) on Raiders. Or if you really wanted to keep the Followers of Bone you can put them on Thenns, as they are sturdy enough to make use of repeated heals.

Also, after playing multiple times different ways, there is no reason for Free Folk to not take 3 NCUs anymore. It gives you an activation to stall with, even if the board is full, and it forces your opponent to deal with the NCU board early in the turn. This can really mess with armies that require the Swords and/or Horse to make up for fewer combat unit activations.

Looks like a solid list. What worked and didn't work so well? What did you pick for the skinchangers?

My strategy was to use bears to maximise stuff on the board! Seemed to work well and added bite! Not 100% on thenns yet but did do a job in one game defending objectives!
not tried bonelords Chosen yet so appreciate any views on a list with these

Hello everyone,

I've started the game at launch, and played Night's Watch since. I want to try something different, so I'm looking for a 2d army, and Free Folks army looks fun !

I'm playing my first game with them on Wednesday, and i'm struggling to chose my last unit and my Commander...Here's the units i want to play :

Combat Units:
• Free Folk Raiders (3)
• Free Folk Raiders (3)
• Free Folk Raiders (3)
• Free Folk Raiders (3)
• Savage Giant (7)
• Savage Giant (7)

Non-Combat Units:
• Styr - Iron-Fisted Tyrant (4)
• Ygritte - Kissed By Fire (3)

That's 33 points, so 7 points left, and a Commander to fill in. Styr influence + Giants looks cool, and Ygritte influence can protect the giants from auto-wounds dealers. I can swap her for Val though.

The options I thought about :

1 = • Followers Of Bone (6) with The Weeper - Horrific Butcher (0) + 1 of the following in a unit of Raiders : Skinchanger / Raid Leader / Jarl-Advanced Raid leader / Harma
The weeper in FoB can deal a lot of damage with "Cut them down", and his tactic cards are nice.

2 = • Cave Dweller Savages (5) with Tormund Giantsbane - Thunderfist (0) + 2 of the following in a unit of Raiders : Skinchanger / Raid Leader / Jarl-Advanced Raid leader / Harma
"Shattering assault" can help me trigger "Ruthless savagery" easier when I'll charge with that beautiful 6 Movement.

3 =
• Cave Dweller Savages (5) with Harma - Vanguard Commander (with Harma's Bannerman) (0) and Harma's Bannerman (0) + 2 of the following in a unit of Raiders : Skinchanger / Raid Leader / Jarl-Advanced Raid leader
Harma's tactic cards looks really cool, free moves to position yourself in the flank/rear looks strong !

I'm sure there's a lot of other options, so I'm asking you, Free Folk players, what do you think will suit well with my 33 points?

Hello,

I'm a Night's Watch player who's looking for a different kind of gameplay, and I really want to try the Free Folk.

I have my first game with them on Wednesday, but I'm struggling to chose my last unit, my last NCU and my Commander :

• Free Folk Raiders (3)
• Free Folk Raiders (3)
• Free Folk Raiders (3)
• Free Folk Raiders (3)
• Savage Giant (7)
• Savage Giant (7)

• Lady Val - The Wildling Princess (3)

I got 11 points left, and a Commander to chose. The options I thought about :

1 = • Followers Of Bone (6) with The Weeper - Horrific Butcher (0) + • Ygritte - Kissed By Fire (3) + 2 of the following : Raid leader / Skinchanger / Jarl - Advanced Raider Leader / Chosen Of Styr
2 =
• Followers Of Bone (6) with The Weeper - Horrific Butcher (0) + • Styr - Iron-Fisted Tyrant (4) + 1 of the following : Raid leader / Skinchanger / Jarl - Advanced Raider Leader / Chosen Of Styr
3 =
• The Bonelord's Chosen (8) with Rattleshirt - The Lord Of Bones (0) + • Ygritte - Kissed By Fire (3)
4 =
• Cave Dweller Savages (5) with Tormund Giantsbane - Thunderfist (0) + • Styr - Iron-Fisted Tyrant (4) + 2 of the following : Raid leader / Skinchanger / Jarl - Advanced Raider Leader / Chosen Of Styr
5 =
• Cave Dweller Savages (5) with Harma - Vanguard Commander (with Harma's Bannerman) (0) and Harma's Bannerman (0) + • Styr - Iron-Fisted Tyrant (4) + 2 of the following : Raid leader / Skinchanger / Jarl - Advanced Raider Leader / Chosen Of Styr

I'm sure there's a lot more of options, that's why I need your advices, what do you think?

I'm not as experienced as many players here, but I would go with option 2. Styr's influence + Giants is very powerful combo, and followers of Bone are a great place to put the weeper.

I would then pick up a skin changer with a bear.

Welcome to FreeFolk!

So, I did 2 games (a Dance with dragons and Fire and blood) and won both. I had a lot of fun playing Free Folk, much more than with my Night's Watch, i don't know why.

I was impressed by the spearwives, for only 4 points, they did a really good job. The Follower of Bones with the Weeper were really good, especially when I combined them with the bear from the skinchanger. The giants were impressive, and a I did 10 kills in a single hit with a Giant left with 1 HP by my opponent (he tried everything to kill him in a single round, but he managed to survive with 1 HP , soooo). Really like the faction overall !

I'm gonna play 2 more games on Thursday, against a Lannister this time, I think I will try this list :

Faction: Free Folk
Commander: The Weeper - Horrific Butcher
Points: 40 (0 Neutral)

Combat Units:
• Free Folk Raiders (3)
• Free Folk Raiders (3)
• Free Folk Spearwives (4) with Jarl - Advanced Raider Leader (1)
• Free Folk Spearwives (4) with Chosen Of Styr (1)
• Followers Of Bone (6) with Skinchanger (1) with The Weeper - Horrific Butcher (0)
• Savage Giant (7)

Non-Combat Units:
• Ygritte - Kissed By Fire (3)
• Craster - Ally of Convenience (3)
• Styr - Iron-Fisted Tyrant (4)

Welcome to the good side of the wall, arko ??????
FF are very fun to play and your list is cool.
about ncu, for me it’s actualy the best combo.
i’m not a big fan of spearwives (short range, to brittle), 1 unit is enough i think.
i prefere play traper instead spearwives.
The problem with ff is the tactic deck wich need lot of units on the table. So, i like playing 2 big units (2 followers or 2 giants) and full skinchanger with bear and raiders.

Thanks :p

Yep, that NCU combo looks strong, I love having 3 NCU, that gives you a lot of tactic possibility.

May I ask why do you prefer trappers over spearwives? They both cost 4, they both shot at short range, but the spearwives have better stats everywhere, + sundering. Is that because of Trapper's order? Because I almost destroy a unit of Baratheon Sentinel in one turn with the spearwives + Advanced raid leader, by charging them on the rear, trappers looks weak to me in comparison, but I may be wrong ^^

Not a bad idea to spam the skinchangers, that will certainly help with the tactic deck, thanks for the advice !

Spearwives + jarl is strong but it’s offen a « one shot » unit, if you don’t destroy the enemy unit, you will loose your spearwives.
i prefere trappers because i put them in the middle of my battle line beetween my two big units to protect them with hidden traps (you can erase a rank of charging unit and desorder the charge).
I try to let trappers 2 or 3 inches behind the line.
