Random Pronunciation question...

I just realised that if it came to it, I\'d have no idea how to rightly pronounce a lot of the usernames from CMoN :p

I realised this when someone meantioned Earkham (sp?) and I wondered is that pronounced \"Ee-ur-kem\", Or \"Ur-kum\" or... Etc etc etc

So just out of interest, if you have an unusual username (Ainu Lainour for example :p) or even ur OWN name, how is it pronounced?

Mine is a tongue-twister I know, I prefer it to be pronounced \"Oh-Mih-tee won\" ;)

I always have fun trying to explain that I know someone from CMoN at GDs, but fall short when I\'m asked my account name. The way I see Earkham\'s is Erk-ham.

Here goes: A-nu Lay-nor.

User name is not an issue (Gil Van), now my last name Tousignant, that one get\'s butchered every time.

Most people pronounce it Two\'s in O
though the actual pronunciation is closer to Two seen neeya. I have found as I aged I swaped over to Two\'s in O as it was eaiser for everyone else to pronounce and understand, and I didn\'t get asked What? as often.

As for bastardizations the most common is Two\'s ig na ant, but I have gotten Two Zeen Nit, Two zin it, Tube zine gant, etc. Thankfully unlike relatives none of my classmates were cleaver enought for Tubs of Snot.

Undave

Flockwit
Undave is actually pronounced Tarquin Fintimlinbinwhinbimlim Bus stop F’tang F’tang Ole Biscuit-Barrel. You\'d be amazed how many people drop the second F\'tang

um....Liz Cam

And for all of you who haven\'t asked yet (you all do eventually) there is NOT a liz cam. It\'s a contraction of Liz Campbell. Stupid work gave it to me and now I hear Berry White everytime I log into anything.

EArkham

Necromancer
E-Arkham, \"E\" as in ...um ...\"E\" and \"Arkham\" as in Lovecraft. It used to be hyphenated (E-Arkham) but was condensed cause Chern Ann removed all special characters from CMON user names some time back. :)

I can\'t imagine that anyone here is really all that concerned with pronouncing my user name, but since I started using it some dozen-plus years ago, I\'ve chosen to say it as:

la - HA - tee - el

I do get asked about it by people on other forums, ones with local users I\'m likely to meet face-to-face; generally if they don\'t guess it correctly on their own, the most common alternate pronunciation I hear is \"la - HAY - shul\" which certainly makes sense itself, it\'s just not my own preferred way.

Been on the pint tonight so sorry for interupting.

Just had thought. Anyone been mistaken for their user name? What I mean is, has anyone ever had someone think your user name is your real name?

I realize for most poeple here this is obviosly not true, as their names are clearly not based in realitly. But there may be people out there that get mistaken for their user name (handle). For example if Shawn RL was actully named Mike.

I remember chatting with someone recently and pointing out my name was not infact Gilvan and they were rather upset by this.
