Just managed to take a decente picture of a mini I did a week ago, it\'s my second attempt at NMM and I\'m still not convinced about NMM. But I\'ll have to wait until I can do some good NMM to give my final judgment :D For the rest I\'m pretty happy about the red on this mini. Not thrilled with my picture taking skills but this is the best I can do so far with my camera and no editing. My mom is thinking of buying a digital camera so I\'ve been leaving pictures of coolpix all around the house :p So hopfully I\'ll have a descent camera to take pictures. PLease tell me what you think of it and how I can improve.

well...

when you highlight NMM, each highlight should be much \"sharper\" than the previous. try going a bit brighter on the edges, it helps demonstrate that the metal is actually reflective and shiny, rather than just grey. same concept with gold.

I agree with Mattsterbenz. Take the highlights up another notch or two on the NMM. I really like the color scheme on this one. NIce work. :)

Hmm, when I had this problem with NMM, it was mostly because of the fact I was using colors that were too much like the middle tone of my basecoat. It usually happend because I\'d lay down a coat of neutral gray and go from there. Now I\'m starting from that darkest areas and going lighter, which helps blending and you know how much further you need to go.
Hope this helps!

like the others said Frenchkid, you need sharper highlights for ur NMM.... in all truth, this is one style in which you can get away with really really sharp highlights and prominant bright areas... since it is done to mimick metal.

SV, I know what you mean. I cannot paint that well (YET). And am amazed by the chrome.

I recall...

I showed that particular pic (Arjays chromed axed warrior) to a friend of mine once.

They didn\'t see why I was making such a big deal about it. They thought it was REAL CHROME...Once I explained that it was just an effect, painted very painstakingly, the look on their face was priceless. Understanding followed by immediate awe....

Well, the pic is still kinda blurry, but from wht I can see, you need a bit more highlighting, like matt said. Try and smooth the edge lighting out a bit too, like on his sword hilt. Try starting from a bit lighter shade for the base. But yeah, nice reds although I can\'t really make much out....go for the coolpix!! I have the low-endish 2200, and it works great!

It looks like you got the photo lighting about right. I assume that you are shooting from a tripod (not hand-held). Set to aperature priority and narrow the aperature as much as possible (biggest f-stop number 8, 16 or 22) This will make the camera shutter stay open longer, but increase the depth of field - leaving more in focus.

Sorry, they were ment to inspire, not depress (honest - that\'s what this place does for me anyways) They were the best NMM that I had seen recently that I could pull up as examples.

If you are highlighted up to white, then you need to work on the lighting on your subject. It looks like you are up to cool grey and need one more shot of white on the tip edges to really make it gleam.

Another trick from airbrushing is to put in a \"hot spot\" a white flare where the light is reflecting back to the camera at. This works great in 2d for shiney things like cars, don\'t know how it would work in 3d armor.

Don\'t worry about it, they do serve as inspiration has well, and it\'s mainly because of arjay that I wan\'t to try and do some good NMM cause I\'m not really found of it, but every time I see one of his minis i think that NMM might be worth a try. PLus I think that rackham minis look wierd in Metallics paints.
I think the white spot you describe is used on swords a lot.
