Any other Browncoats here?

I just saw the \"Firefly\" movie \"Serenity\", damn! What a great way to wrap up the show! Some laughs, some tears, some action and terror. A few points:

- The character interaction is very true to the TV series, some conflicts have been played up but otherwise it is very similar.
- Summer Glau\'s dance background really shows in her fight scenes.
- Captain Malcolm Reynolds has never been darker, more driven, more charismatic, or more morally ambiguous.
- the main Bad Guy is extremely compelling.
- A lot of great visual design in this. Some great looking space ships of various types (Reavers and Alliance). Urban environments owe as much to \"Blade Runner\" as Star Trek.
- Several truly eerie and frightening moments, excellently shot with nary a single cheap scare.
- I am still in love with Jewel Staite.

I wish I could go on but I don\'t want to give anything away :D

I too hope to see it soon.. maybe tomorrow after I watch theBengals go 4-0 :D

As I understand..this was to be #1 of three movies planned for the crew of serenity.

Its funny when this show was on TV, I kept catching it in bits and pieces and thought this \"Cowboy Western\" in outer space looked really dumb.. so I like the rest of america turned off the show.. then some guys at work were talking it up due to the release of the DVD\'s..after a little bit of pressure I agreed to borrow them and give them a watch one weekend..I sat through all 4 disks back to back..and then rushed out and bought my own copylol

Try to, if at all possible, put yourself in the place of someone who has never seen or heard of firefly.
Would that person enjoy the film as much?

It\'s not Star Trek. But the scripts and humanity of the series is what made it so addictive. Plus the humour and the gunfights.
Think of Firefly as the Wild West thrown into space with minor colonies as the frontiers.
Technology is not as common on the fringes and the \"legality\" of the crew is dubious to non-existant.
Aliens? There aren\'t any. There\'s enough to cope with in humans.

It would be a superb setting for a Roleplaying game.

and it would be your loss ...seriously.
I realise the trailer made it look like just another space flick,but it\'s not.
It got an A- from an audience and B+ from the critics.When does a sci-fi:Dever do that well.

Audience ratings mean nowt - look at some of the shit that gets to number one!!

It looked too much like a TV movie, but perhaps it was just a badly put together trailer.

I\'ll have a squiz when it comes out on DVD:)

I thought the trailer was ok, but it was not a very good representation of the movie\'s plot, or production values. Which are VERY high, by the way, this is not done like a TV movie! A lot of work and $ went into this and it shows.

I would recommend you see it in the theatre if it\'s not too much of a bother to do so. While the story is very engaging* there are a lot of \"big screen scenes\" - the space battles, gunfights etc were sweet-ass in the cinema!

I WAS mildly disappointed that realism gave way to drama and there was sound during the space battles. Engines roaring, weapon sounds etc. The show did \"silent space\" very well, but I concede that it might not work in an action movie.

* I\'ll admit that a knowledge of the TV show helps when watching the film, but the characters and setting are introduced well enough that I think a non-fan can get into them. Though you might be slightly confused as to what exactly Inara does for a living... it\'s not explicitly explained what Companions are :D

Good movie. Not the best movie ever but worth the 6 bucks. The little bit of CGI was impressive, which I did not expect.
