\"Serenity\"

NSA - Whilst I can understand your point, I\'m in agreement with Zordana. (we of the \"Z\" names need to stick together!)

Seriously, I\'ve come to wonder if Joss Whedon has serious relationship issues. He NEVER lets a couple be together for long, NOR end up happy.

That really grinds my gears...;)

More Spoilers:

Im such a dork... the more I think about it the more upset I get. Every now and then I find myself saying to my husband \"I can\'t believe he killed wash!\"

You know how Joss killed him with the huge stake n everything... was he trying to make a buffy joke or something?

How annoying. We should find a miniature that resembles Joss, convert it to have a stake through its chest, paint it up and send it to him with an angry message.
That\'ll learn him.

Ok...it took me a small while to finally see this show.

I watched the DVD series of Firefly, and I agree, this thing is excellent. Such great writing and fun characters.

I haven\'t seen \"Serenity\" the movie yet...but I have it at home, and will try and see it this week. Excellent stuff so far!!

Haven\'t seen Firefly, but Serenity was spot on considering how little I was expecting of it. I\'ve got the box set of Firefly to go through now. :)

Munkie, you won\'t be disappointed. Imagine the humor, character development, etc. extended over 13 episodes....

\'Vike - glad you got to see it finally. :)

I\'m one of those \"Firefly after the fact\" people. The 20 minutes or so that I watched of the TV show more or less completely failed to spark my interest, despite being a regular Buffy / Angel watcher.

After seeing Serenity I was so impressed that I went back and watched Firefly and loved it. The only thing I could have gotten by without was the \"two by two, hands of blue\" stuff. Too Buffy-ish. Other than that, I was struck with a sense of loss within three or four DVD episodes, thinking \"when I\'m done watching these DVD\'s, there isn\'t any more.\"

**SPOILER WARNING IN EFFECT**
In the commentary on Serenity Joss does say that the second death was needed to lend some urgency and tension to the scenes that followed... It\'s a very typical thing that none of the good guys in a tv show die. Things become serious when you realize any of them can go at any moment from then on. And there\'s definitly some tension when they get cornered with the reavers. Having said all this, I finally got to see the one episode I missed before, \"Heart of Gold\" and all it did was instill in me a longing for a second season again. I know I won\'t get my wish, but one can always hope!

Now I just need someone to put together a browncoats mini game to ease my Firefly addiction!

i am a leaf on the wind, watch how i soar

i have seen both now (the series and then the film) and i have to say i loved the series. the film was a pain in the arse. not because it was bad but because it pretty much stopped the possibility of a second series. top stuff

There is a Serenity role playing game.

I think a case like Spacemunkie and hakoMike is where Serenity really succeeds. I went to see the movie (the second time around) with two friends who weren\'t familiar with the series at all and had not expectations whatsoever. They both ended up loving it and subsequently borrowed the DVDs from folks and plowed through them.

Just finished watching Firefly on DVD, truly great. Like others, I saw Serenity first, so I think the next thing to do is watch Serenity again.

You kind of get the feeling that it could have ammounted to one of the best sci-fi shows ever. Curse those tv bosses :(

Try to, if at all possible, put yourself in the place of someone who has never seen or heard of firefly.
Would that person enjoy the film as much?
No one ever answered my question exactly, so I will.

It\'s easy because I have now seen the movie.
I had totally forgotten about this thread, and having never seen the TV show, I didn\'t think about it.
Then I saw \"Serenity\" on the library shelf and thought - I think people on CMON liked that. I\'ll give it a shot.

Glad I did.
That was a fantastic movie. It packed so much information into a short time period without resorting to voice-overs (well, except the opening lines but they were short).
I also want to say that it included the most impressive space combat scene since Return of the Jedi (though high atmosphere combat would be more accurate).
Great reaction of the assassin guy when he saw what was coming. The guy who is so non-emotional \"you can\'t make me angry\"; even he is afraid of Reavers.

I just recently got some HIGH DEF channels through my cable company....they show the Firefly series quite often...I can even sit through the commercials..the High Def makes it worth it.

I think my favorite episode may be the one with the Bounty Hunter. That character is just oddball enough to make you like him, but ruthless enough to make you loathe him.

I can\'t say I would be against a revival of Firefly...but I was really satisfied with how it ended--

Plus Capt. Nathan has moved onto new things, like Slither....

lol

Slither was gory fun, true.

Have you been watching Drive, his (Nathan Fillion, that is) new show on Monday nights on Fox? Good stuff.

Too bad I missed this thread at its birth - I hadn\'t joined the CMON community yet! Serenity was excellent, and a nice wrap-up for the series. It totally blew away that \"other\" big sci-fi movie that came out around the same time.

Favorite quote:

Jayne - \"She\'s damaging my calm.\"

Inara is deliciously evil in Stargate SG-1 as Adria. Course, she is just plain delicious in general.

Alan Tudyk (Wash) gave a great performance in a CSI episode not long ago - he played a child molester that you could almost sympathize with - almost.

Wistfully hoping that future good sci-fi series don\'t suffer the same untimely fate...
