Pictish Mini Painting

I'm actually a man!
Yeah, I never got a good look at the SS winner, but I did see it a few times in passing. It was eye catching due to its colour, was a bit different as it was the only one of that model I saw in a sea of Knights. Of the Golds I saw being judged, I felt that the diormam Gold and the LOTR Gold's were maybe more deserving to my tastes but without seeing the SS winner up close (hopefully a future GD special Visions\WD will appear) I will reserve judgment.

At the end of the day, you are competing against what is there on the day, it was the best\most eye catching\unique piece they saw out of the 10 gold's they saw this year.

Looking at previous slayer swords they are all over the place in their sections they come from, be it Diorama, Single mini, large model etc. This one just happened to win out this year.

People shouting it down on FB etc, I would question if they even turned up this year, if they want to complain, do a better job, its that simple.

Don't get me wrong! I'm not trying to take any moral high ground or even place any moral views on this at all. I just think it's a shame whenever I see people who have put a lot of effort into their work, put a lot of money into travelling to a show and then walk away from it just feeling upset. I love going to competitions and I also love the boost you get if you are awarded. But, I also try to focus on the positive experiences of a competition even if the competition didn't go my way. Not because of any holier-than-thou reasons, but for the simple fact that it makes me feel happier than if I was upset half of the times I went somewhere. Using a competition as a motivating force is great! You'll get no argument from me there! :)

Thanks again friends!

thats not what i heard volomir said. but probably shouldnt talk about what he said or not.

I just went by what he said in his blogpost. Like you I didn't see it up close so I can neither say yay or nay.

Aaaaa c'mon Sven! you almost rage-quit the hobby when your galadriel wasnt a finalist ;)

haha, but it was! Of course I would have been disappointed if it didn't get to the finals because then I would know that they haven't look at it properly. ;)

i really dont enjoy the bashing of the slayer either. even if it wasnt my choice it won fare and square, not much to say about that. i totally missed it though, never got my attention in the cabinett and forgot to check it afterwards so i can neither bash it or salute it :)
to me it was not a stand out winner this year, usually there are some work that truly stand out but this time i felt the golds in basically all categories could win. my choice had probably been Anna's fantastic Lotr mini, but i guess its hard for a lotr mini to win slayer in the demon competition.

I liked Pisarkis dual. I thought the LOTR gold was very nice as well though. And Angelos painting of Nagash made me actually start to appreciate the model. The sculpt looks much better IRL I have to say. If we go purely by painting technique I think Gareths single Warhammer entry is hard to beat.

sorry Skel - very late to the party (as usual). Just dropping in to say congrats on the daemons. Very impressive, as ever. *doffs cap*

Well I saw the SS winner irl it was very good, I don't think I could of painted that mini as good.
Me personally I would of gone with Annas LOTR mini.
