If you want strong dynamics, show them 1/2 sec after he lets go of the chains.
You could have the loose chains whipping off in different directions.

^^^THIS but just as the chains are breaking o_O Yeah you would have to build the chains link by link, but you could position them very very accurately!!!!!

I have the feeling he doesn't want to spend too much time with this. Probably just wants to arrange them in a sensical way and be done with it.

Ok so I have to ask this. Whenever I click on your WIP and it takes me to your front page, I see the door base you painted for elephant man. I am always amazed by the painting there. Is it blue? Gray? Brown? Please, as best as you can remember, how would you paint this?

haha, straken... :smile-big: fit a lot better on this guy!

thanks a lot for all input. been playing in PS a little. not sure my personal carpenter will be able to do this though as it require a perfect wooden piece, "rough" edges are supposed to be natural wood.

I'd probably go with one being loose, a bit in front of the pack. Sniffing blood. Slanting base as suggested.

Not a bad idea from Ave. Might I suggest that, with those open maws (mouths) you could place a severed arm or limb of choice. Also, they should all definitely have strings of drool in their open mouths. A quick special effect that adds a lot to the piece. Agree?

edit: Of course you already have the drool. Silly me.

sorry mate forgot to answer this. long time ago but i think it was in my GW 'Scorched brown' period, scorched brown+white - white. it actually give a small grey-violet tint mixing sb with white, at least when you blend with glazes.

You're the best, Skel...really cool of you to take the time to answer my fan mail:) Seriously, thanks. There are just certain colors your produce that intrigue me. That red black, VMC smoke, now scorched brown desaturated...I know that the best painters often get annoyed when people ask them specific recipes, but for me it has always really, really helped when people share their recipes with me. For instance, my NMM gold kinda sucked until I actually ordered some Snakebite. Or using Ratskin Flesh for copper...these are things I couldn't come up with on my own.

np mate :)

short update not much mojo at the moment but i did paint the backside of the banner at least, nothing fancy but it will do.

started to sketch the pattern for the front, just the basics.

i also put this together, going to be a bretonnia chief knight. im going to paint this tabletop as a friend has challenged me for a whfb battle with his bretonnia knights, my guess is that he has enough minis for 5-6 bretonnia armies :D so im going to paint my boss.

Very lovely Skel. Are you going to show brains or mechanical parts in the head?

I'd like to see your Bretonia Boss when your done with him.

Question: do you first put it down with pencil, and then go over the pencil with dark paint?

Its looking damn good. Really inspires me to put something down on Milliput very soon.

thanks moetle! its going to be mechanical parts in the head. some cogs n stuff :)

yeah i do a very rough sketch first with pencil, then a somewhat less rough sketch with dark paint.

no milliput here though! use thin plasticard instead and set it on fire (on the edges mostly) and bend it a little. both easier, faster and gives a better result. and it doesnt risk to break afterwards ...

You always come up with really cool looking banners. And it's really nice for us all to see how they develop in the early stages. Thank you for sharing!

Think I discussed my Plasticard woes here before. I just couldn't get the paint to stop pooling. It seemed like it had nowhere to go so whenever I finished a brush stroke, it left behind a tiny puddle of paint. Also left brush strokes behind very easily. I agree that PC sounds like the way to go, especially because you can heat some very dynamic folds into it, but I just can't seem to make it work :(

Also excited to see your Bretonnian work. GW horses always seemed just too smooth and squat to me, so it'll be nice to see them done up nicely. Wish they made some new Brettonian units, as it seems like it's been a long time with no updates.

The banner is looking excellent already. Your freehand skill is top notch. I love the tarnished/aged metal look you have going on.

ah yeah, now i remember. but if you feel the paint have nowhere to go when you finish a brushstroke, my guess is that you thin the paint too much.
you have to figure out the paints consistency i guess that comes with experiance. if other people ultimately can paint on plasticard i promise you can too ;)
