So I found a copy of HeroQuest?!

Today at a church rummage sale, I picked up a quite battered copy of this late-80's Milton-Bradley board game, including what looks like most of the accessories and miniatures (all of the player minis and the Skeletor-like Necromancer are definitely there and intact, plus a double handful of orcs, Chaosy-looking fighters and undead).

What should I do with it? Part it out on eBay? Squirrel away the minis? (they're pretty cool in a clunky plastic way) It seems like a "find" but I'd probably never play it, and I don't know anyone else who would...

It's hit or Miss with e-bay : most of the time they don't go for much...........you might find the odd buyer who pays a lot.

I always thought the mummies and zombies are pretty good looking minis.

They game is actually quite addictive if you can get the 5 people needed to play it fully

5 people... yeah good luck :( If I could muster that quorum, we could play Zombies! or Risk.

The mummies are great, I also have a very similar metal one from Citadel's gothic horror range around the same era. The Fighter and the Necromancer are pretty much total ripoffs of He-Man and Skeletor :) The Orcs and goblins are pretty dreadful, a lot like the old plastic Bloodbowl minis (which I also owned once.)

You found a HeroQuest and you're NOT keeping it? Make yourself some new friends and play it until it breaks instead! :rotfl:

If I knew I'd have the money for it in the nearby future I'd tell you to sit on it for me, it's always nice to have a second set of minis and whatnots in reserve, but I'm just not sure that I could justify it to the missus...

Oh, I'm keeping it for the time being. The issue being, my Significant Other (who doesn't yet know I bought it) has a low tolerance for things like this residing in our apartment, and to be fair she has a point, we don't have tons of space here for things we don't use and will never use. In the meantime I should try and figure out HOW complete it is... there must be something missing, all old board games are missing something, LOL

If it's missing, I can help with the list of things that are not supposed to be missing. :D My copy is in swedish but I'm pretty sure it still contains the same stuff. Got any expansions with it or is it the basic game?

It's just the original game. I'm going to have a look on Boardgamegeek to see if they have an inventory list of the contents.

Hero Quest ROCKS! I still have my copy around in storage... I used to play the hell out of that game! Was too much fun! If I ever have kids in the future, you know I'll introduce it to them~~

I used to have a copy years ago when I was about 8-10. I remember we found it at a boot sale and picked it up for next to nothing! Brilliant game though I had a lot of fun with it...not sure my parents and older brother roped in to fill the places enjoyed it as much though :D

I think its been lost now :(

Dude... that sucks. There should be a special medal or something for enduring that :(

EDIT: after doing inventory, it turns out the copy I picked up is functionally almost COMPLETE... only 2 of the door stands and one open door missing. One of the orcs' weapons has broken off too. Nice :D I'll try to hang on to this, since they don't seem to fetch enough on eBay to be worth my while.

I am so sure my uncle who spent his life in the army gave it to me when I was like 10. I held on to it never playing it until i lost it when i was about 25 I would say.

Heroquest was a great game not to mention some cool minis for the time, I still have mine and one day will paint it. It got better with the additions some of which go for a fortune now on ebay. I still have yet to find someone who will part with Wizards of Morcar for a reasonable price or trade.
I got my kids into gaming with Heroquest and also Space Crusade the sci fi counterpart.

Heroquest was my very first miniature game:) I just loved the boock cases, the torture bench and furniture in general. I remember me and my brothers playing it. Not sure if we understood the rules or not, guess I was around 8 and my brother +/- 4 years. Not that I've been in to minis since then, hade a huge break from 14/15 till late last year. 27 now~~ Anywho, heroquest draws my mind to Blood Berets, wich was my very first OWN miniature game, shortly after hero quest (wich me and my brothers had together). Still got it. Painted the minis but otherwise everything is in perfect condition. Loved that game to death

Spanish Heroquest cost than twice or three times than english version.

A few years back I got a copy of "Rogue Trooper" at a car boot sale, I still have the miniatures, and was thinking of doing one for the Australian GD, the strange thing was when I took it to the local GW store they wouldn't let me play :(

Alas, GW's "garden of pure ideology" approach ensures that unless you are throwing money at them, they're not interested. Although RT was a GW product once... it doesn't make them a cent now to allow you anywhere near their gaming tables with it. Also, it might show the regulars a glimmer of fun outside of the WH/WH40K ghetto... thus, Verboten! This is why a "GW store" is not the same as a FLGS :(
