It\'s MEANT to a very simple forklift truck

I still need to get hold of some fine metal mesh for the safety roll cage.

Beneath are the forks (Shaped sprue) with need to be attached

I also need to construct the actual hydraulics too

The lascannon power pack will be used to give some detail to the rear of the truck

The chair is the back from (I believe) an OOOLLLD style metal landspeeder

The main shape and frame of the actual truck are constructed from balsa and thick wire

(I need to tidy up the \"welds\" and joints)

I should have put a something to give better scale, but I guess the GW parts should give at least A frame of reference

Whaddya think?

You can use fly screen to represent wire mesh for the cage, its cheap and looks better at this scale then actual wire mesh. Looks like an interesting little project.

Bearing in mind there\'s not as much call for insect screens here in the UK I\'m wondering how available it is - ta tho, I\'ll keep an eye out...

What I WOULD like is to find a decent seat ...
The landspeeder seat is okaaayyy... But It\'s a bit meaty for my liking...

Anyone have any ideas?
I\'m wondering if a LEGO seat might work, although it might be a bit too big...

BALSA... Not the best material for accepting paint - anyone have any ideas on sealing it or otherwise I may have to go over the whole thing in plasticard

looking at some reference piccys of fork lifts,

Have you though about creating the seat from Milliput? same method as making sand bags, all the seat i have seen have been the patent leather covering foam so i think it would work really well?

Here\'s some progress.
Need to straighten parts of the hydraulics and forks, and add a little more.

Also did a quick pallet with a random bit I was never gonna use - gonna have to construct some straps to \"Hold\" the bit in place.

For seats you could check model car kits, or perhaps even die cast cars, you can usualy find some at the Dollar Stores around here.

Cool lift truck. I see enough of these in a day that I can see you did a pretty great job capturing the look. An electric type I truck it looks like, or are you going to toss a propane tank up on the ass end at some point?

I was just going for a standard little 5ton counterbalance like the type I learnt on - I know the weight generally comes from the massive lead-carbide (?) Batteries under the seat, but I\'m using the lascannon cells from the sentinel attached on the rear just to give it some detail.

A car seat might be an idea, I might see if I can cannibalise one

Hey, DaN! Paint the thing with lightly diluted PVA-glue, that stops the wood from absorbing the paint and gives it a more metal/plastic look. Thats how I did it when I was working with balsa aeroplanes...

Oh nice. I like the rails up front for the forks. I wasn\'t sure it was going to come together from the original pics. It\'s looking good, though.

To be honest, I think the coolest part is the pallet with the engine on it. I\'m betting that will paint up nice.

I don\'t think that\'ll be a problem with such small areas but you could always use clean PVA-glue and paint tiny areas one at a time, the dilution is just to make it easier to apply. Try it on a scrap piece first.
You could always give it a thin coat of filler and then sand it down before anything else.

Still working on smoothing the main body of the truck, but managed to find a fairly decently sized seat AND wheel in an old Corgi car

Also added some strapping to the engine/pallet

It\'s coming along nicely. But it\'s lacking in hydraulics to lift the forks.
Or is that just nit-picking?

Umm yep - trying to figure out how to model the lifting mechanism - although I\'ve made some rams for tilt.

If I make something similar in the future though I\'ll definitely sketch it out more next time! lol
