I\'d think the lifting mechanism would be easy. A couple of polystyrene tubes of different sizes ought to do it, I think.
With a flat plate attaching the bottom rear of the forks to the tubes.

Beyond that, two levers on the left of the steering wheel (brake and forward/reverse) and three on the right (leveler, lift, and slide/side-to-side). In case you\'ve never driven a fork lift.

Well I didn\'t drive a forklift with lever drive, but pedal drive, so I\'ve only got lift and tilt levers done

I did a little panel with some knobs to signify the horn, lights, pressure gauge, etc

I\'ll take some pictures later today and show the rams I\'ve done and the other details.

Then, once I\'ve filed and sandpapered the surfaces a bit more, I\'ll glue everything on that I\'ve done so far, and then I can get some more tips.

Still some filing/sanding on certain areas, but I figure with it being industrial AND IG, I can leave it fairly rough.

JW, what colour are are vehicles like this in the military?

The civilian ones I seen/driven have all been yellow/orange bright colours...

Depending on theatre most of them are green if they belong to the army, the Navy borrow anybodies we can get a hold of at the time but even the trucks used to marshal aircraft/helicopters around on the carriers are green.

Not sure of the exact colour green though.
If it is for 40K I would paint it up in greys.

Still I don´t get it why you want a 40k forklift... but slowly I´m starting to want one ,too...^^

I really love it so far but maybe you want to add some hydraulics to move the forks up and down.
I´m not that fond of using wood to represent metal because of the grain.
I do my hydraulics with toothpicsand an old biro leads (or other kinds of plastic tubes.)
Toothoics fit in them very neatly and they are cheap (but they can make a mess if there is still paint inside...)
If you are interessted then have a look at my W.I.P. thread- I got some pics of my hydraulics I did in exactly the same way.

hehe - because I planned to use one in a diorama... I don\'t have all the pieces ready and it\'s still in the \"thinking about\" stage, but I thought a forklift would be interesting thing to do - partly as an experiment in scratch-building.

As for using wood - I agree, which is why I coated it with milliput - I did consider covering it with plasticard, but I thought milliput would be cheaper, and easier for the rounded edges of the truck\'s body.

Having primed it, I don\'t think you can see the grain.

Um... Not sure I HAVE any plans for the turret gun wotsit - just had the bits and made it. Might go on some scenery or my just do it as is.
