Another commission job....

When asked what weapon build the customer wants, the response was \"Whatever will win the most.\"

Fire warriors go first.

I was really keen on getting this box set, is it worth the money? is it a good gaming force?
But good look with them! That washing technique looks really good, when i painted mine i just carefully painted around the lines!

The megaforce gives you £40 buying individally appaently so yes prbably but only if you play Tau but £100 is a lot of money out of anyones pocket an £150 is a half more than that

The models look great mate looky very good indeedy liking then, I will be watching this thread with interest

They progress.

@Matty1001: I have no idea how good a fighting force it is, as I have never played 40k! I\'ve actually had to do some reading up on Crisis Suit builds to try and configure them. I\'m still undecided on that one.

@Sonnyslayer: It\'s vgc filthy brown for the base coat over a white primer. The wash is about 2 tablespoons Future mix (80/20) three drops of vgc charred brown and one drop vgc black. If the wash is too concentrated it really changed the basecoat color. The first few I did required far more rebasecoating because the wash was too pigmented.

Next step is the cloth (charred brown) and little details, then stealth suits, then time for the vehicles. I\'ll probably do the pirhannas, then the devilfish and hammerhead, then the crisis suits last.

I cheated tonight.... I actually painted one of my own models for a while, something I haven\'t done in some time. High Exemplar Kreoss! On my wife\'s suggestion I changed his ridiculous weapon to actually be a flail with a real chain. It looks fantastic. Attention: be jealous of how cool my wife is!

Still plugging away at Fire Warriors.

With the exception of some little details here and there and basing, these guys are done. I\'ve resorted to some serious speed painting. I have only three weeks to get the whole thing done, so I really need to move on to stealth suits and vehicles.

That said, I still took some time tonight to finish up Kreoss. I\'ll probably touch up places where the ink is too splotchy, but he\'s pretty much done. Oh, and yes I do see the gigantic mold line right down his weapon.
BONUS PICTURE!!!

I\'d really rather be painting single models like Kreoss, but a job\'s a job I suppose.

Stealth suits done. Devilfish in process. Crisis suit #1 assembled.

Remaining: Crisis suit #2, Hammerhead, 3 piranha.

Kreoss didn\'t do so hot in the voting. Well, I like him. :p

The way your painting them is working a treat, and your getting them done quickly. Now thats something I cant do lol Great stuff

I am rapidly approaching assembly completion. The only thing left is the last crisis suit and finishing the tanks. The camo pattern planned for the vehicles is still theory since I\'ve never painted it. I\'m also out of white primer, so it\'s off to the hobby shop.

I should have it out the door by the end of the week. It\'s solid 5\'s / 6\'s and nothing I beam with pride about, but I\'ve managed to get an entire army painted in about a month. Well.... almost. We\'ll see if I can reach my \"end of the week\" goal.

Anyone have a favorite crisis suit weapon build for the second crisis suit?

I\'m not sure what they\'re called, but the suits look cool with one of those long rectangular cannons over each shoulder.
Good work hakomike, a real production line you\'ve got on the go. Do you have any practice shots of the camo?

Okay, at long last everything is off the sprue.

@hubbabubba, I think they are \"broadside\" suits you are referring to.
Here: http://us.games-workshop.com/games/40k/tau/catalog/broadside_battlesuit.htm
The big ship is going to have the same sort of square gun (rail gun I think?) There are two crisis suits in the megaforce, but neither is a broadside type.

I don\'t have any tests of the camo... I\'m reproducing what\'s on the box as best I can. Did I mention that I\'m really sick of Tau yet? It has been just over three weeks since I received the box. Sigh. I\'m lugging my paint box to work every day to work on a dwarf army commission job on my lunch hour too. The dwarf army is for a coworker and I\'ve been putting it off for a long time.... now I just want to be done with outstanding work.

Remaining before I am free:
these accursed Tau
Skorne starter box
Skorne Titan cannoneer (has a wip thread here... on hold for tau), Praetorian unit, and warlock.
10 dwarf miners, 10 thunderers, 24 warriors, two artillary crews and a gyrocopter.

EDIT: I sure am a whiner, aren\'t I? lol

I\'d like to make the two main guns for the hammerhead interchangeable. Has anyone heard of a way to do this? It doesn\'t lend itself well to pinning.

I don\'t know how to make the HammerHead weapons interchangeable, but I know a place that does clicky

Have a quick look throught the modelling forum and someone will have it written down.

Also, if you have not yet painted the Crisis suits, remove the Burst Cannons NOW!! They really are not worth having on the crisis suits. If you can, put the Missile Pod and Plasma Gunon each one (the missile pod is the one that looks like a missile pod, the plasma gun is the gun you have one the other suit).

That is probably the easiest config for a new player to use.

Hope that helps

Aw, nuts. Since the fellow refused to define what he wanted I just picked 1 anti-troop and 1 anti-armor as the choices. I\'m guessing the template of the missile launcher is superior to the burst gun against troops by your recommendation. How about the melta on one of them instead of the plasma? At least they would look different then.

EDIT: never mind. The burst guns are glued fast... I can\'t get them off the arms (viva la Zap Gel) so he\'ll get the burst guns and like it. At least I\'ve got plasma on one and missile on the other.

why don\'t you just clip it off....or use a sharp knife and score the plastic/glue. You can always throw a little putty on there and say that it was converted...lol

I like how the fire warriors came out...looked simple, what colors did you use?

Clip them off.... I considered it, but since the weapons socket so nicely on the arm with that square tab I just wiggled them until they fell off. It took a while. What I will do now is paint all the weapons and let the customer figure it out. I don\'t want him griping about not winning battles because I picked the x weapon instead of the y weapon.

The fire warriors were primed white, basecoated vgc filthy brown, then washed with 80/20 water/Future mix with vgc charred brown (about 2 drops of paint per tablespoon of solution, I think.) I re-basecoated any parts of the armor that tinted too much in the wash.

Have you thought about magnetizing the weapons....that way he can switch out weapons to whatever he wants to use....give him the option to use the burst canon or fusion gun. of pop it off to use the plasma. You can probably magnetize the turret for the hammerhead to fit both the ion cannon and rail gun.
Just a thought

Two more days and I\'ll be done. That will make one day shy of 4 weeks painting.

The picture stinks out loud... sorry. I just wanted to capture the fact that all vehicles are basecoated and the hammerhead is washed. I\'ll wash everything then put the camo pattern on. The drones are positively obscene in number... trying to just basecoat them took way longer than I thought it would. I contrived a way to make the main gun on the hammer head interchangable... I put a pin sticking out of the gun mount point, then put green stuff in the cavity of the gun where the mount fits. I pressed each gun on the mount to make a hold in the gs for the pin. Easy and effective.

@war0827, the weapons on the crisis suits stay on by just pressing them into place, so I\'m not going to bother with anything like magnets. I\'ve purchased rare earth magnets for magnetic movement trays, but I really don\'t know what sort of magnet would work well for interchangeable weapons... really thin ones? From what I\'ve seen of the rare earch magnets, you\'d really have to glue them securely to the arm/weapon to keep the magnets from sticking together and tearing off the mini.

Oh, and here\'s what I use the rare earth magnets for now... My Skaven live in my Army Transport and my Menoth live here:

That\'s a dollar store cookie sheet with my entire Menoth army on it. My dog seemed none too happy to have it held sideways above her head. I just grab my tray of fresh-baked Menites and head off for game night. Actually, some of the commonly used ranked Skaven units are on cookie sheets are well. It\'s so much easier to pull full units on movement trays than it is to assemble models individually stored in foam.
