The GREATEST Rock Singers: Ever

Maynard James Keenan (the singer from Tool).

Not a giant like most of the others above, but his lyrics are great.

Absolutely - you really notice how good he is when he blows Deftones\' Chino out the water on \'Passenger\', featured on Deftones\' \'White Pony\'.

Down/Pantera\'s Phil Anselmo
Alice in Chains\' Layne Staley

Freddie Mercury - probably the best frontman ever too
Mick Jagger - and he\'s still bloody good at the age of 238
Roy Orbison - not quite as rocking, but holy shit, that\'s a voice that could even make Chuck Norris weep

And Ainu, if you like falsetto give Jon Birgisson from Sigur Ros a try. Nothing like a bit of Icelandic wailing mixed in with a little gibberish to get you going.

EDIT - Oh, and is it just me or has nobody mentioned Elvis Presley yet? He was fairly good too!

Hate to admit this but two people who have spectacular voices, albeit pop, are Cindy Lauper and Boy George.

Boy George? He was off key on Karma Chameleon. Also, I\'ve never thought of his voice as anything remtely spectacular.

I\'m gonna suggest replacing Our Lady Peace\'s Raine Maida with Geddy Lee (Rush) or Gord Downie (The Tragically Hip) for the interesting Canadian vocals category.

Geddy desrves major credit for his mastery of the bass and those crazy foot pedal machines that supplemented the 3-man band rather well. I\'ve got a lot of respect for Gord Downie as a songwriter/poet as well. Great stuff.

Anyway I\'m glad to see that Geddy Lee and Roger Daltrey got their props (eventually). Two of my all-time favorites. Even saw the Who in concert last year, which is pretty rare for a 22 year old. If only Entwhistle lasted a few more years :p Sadly missed out on the R30 tour that Rush put on a few years ago, my old man scored some skybox tickets but it wasn\'t until a few months later that I really started to listen to (and fall in love with) Rush.

Ozzy on the first two sabbath albums, say no more.

Plant is great, but his apperences since the eighties leave a bitter after taste, Led zep 1 -4 is untouchable

Boy george, rock singer???

That chap from Free was good, liked the guy from steppen wolf too.
Contemporary, have to be that nice young man from the original Napalm Death line up, Nicholas Bullen. lovely.;)
