Three New Ones

These are the big three, my entries for GD Chicago 2007. Each one was great fun to paint, and I noticed an improvement in my painting from the wood elf to the troll.

O&G Troll - First Cut

Wood Elf Sentinel

=I= Daemonhuntress

I\'m a little disappointed with the first pic for the =I= and the troll, but the rest are quite good. The blue back-drop was made on Microsoft paint, and yes, it did take forever. :p Thanks :) C&C welcome.

Yeah, I agree that shaprer photos would help a lot here. Still, you can clearly see that it is nice work done on all of these. I think the troll is my favourite, despite the bad photos.

How do you light your minis while photographing? They seem a little dark and bad lighting makes it harder for the camera to focus properly. I\'d look into adding more light when you photograph your minis.

Great work on all of them, def liked the troll the best! and I don\'t like the sculpt of the new trolls, but perhaps it\'s the way the \'eavy metal way of painting them that I don\'t like.

The base on it is as well just great!

I set up a bright light used for working in dark places (the name escapes me) at the right, a second lamp at the left, and the lamp I use for painting from the front. I\'m going to re-take some of the shots and post the new ones.

Thanks for feedback everyone, it\'s a huge help. :)

the base on the troll detracts from as they are too similar in tone so there is no focus for the eye.

infact this seems to be something common in your pieces there doesnt seem to be any particular focal point. the models seem to be a similar tone and brightness all over.

i think if there was something to lead the eyes into the piece it would be easier to see the paintjobs on the model rather than trying to take it all in at once.

some one with more talent than me can probably describe what i mean better and good ways to fix it.

I don\'t think he means more contrast. It just need a focal point, something that immediately draws your eye, then you can lead yourself around the model.

Most painters use the face, so when you look at it you immediately see the face and your eyes are not jumping about trying to find something to focus on.

Not necessarily more contrast, but brighter colours or a different shade could work.

It\'s funny everyone mentions how dark it is (not to say it isn\'t, but..) I used three foundation paints for the skin and basically shaded it with Vallejo Blue (Fairly light) and dark brown. Thanks for voting.
