To morning star or not to morning star?

That be the dwarf what I got off ye eBay, ar! :D Albeit unpainted! Ar! :D

That one was painted by manumilitari. What I\'m posting about is whether I should change his weapon... I think manumilitari converted the spikes on the mace here; on my one they are round, not as spikey as this. While the rest of the sculpt is very nice, the mace has a rather classic feel in a bad way - ie., chunky, cartoonish - not the style I\'m after.

I have several suitable axes or sword that would nicely replace the mace, but what do you people think? Would it be sacrilege to desecrate a vintage lead miniature 7 years older than I am, or should I follow my heart and give him a nicer weapon? :D

Cheers

file down the cartoony spikes so its a round sphere, get a super fine drill and do lots of holes, then cut the ends off pins and glue them in the holes, youll have an evil lookjing mace!

If you\'re going to convert this (and I think you should) the pose and motion of the mini is screaming out for a good old ball-and-chain style flail (often wrongly referred to as a morning star). The dwarf appears to be swinging round so a trailing chain would work really well and be inkeeping with his original \"spikey ball of death\" personality.

I was going to say that an axe might possibly be acceptable, sword would look wrong, and mace is the best bet, but I think the ball & chain flail (damn you Dungeons & Dragons) is a fantastic idea.

If that isn\'t doable, try different types of mace heads to see what you like. There are several to choose from.

This guy really looks like he is swinging a blunt weapon around, I\'d recommend a giant hammer or something. Maybe a big rock or piece of pillar, like that GW Ogre Maneater has :D

Or you could do the classic \"wall of a church on a chain\" style flail like some of the more recent Giant sculpts have been favoring!

i was about to say a flail too...

btw, isnt a morning star a mace with spike? or is it a mace with 5-6 blade to form the \"mace\"?

A \"morning star\" is a spiked club like so:

The mini above has a morning star, not a mace, but both had quite similar uses (though different origins).

yep, maces mauls and morning starts are hafted weapons.

flail weapons usualy have a chain attached to the weapon head. (damn tiring to use as well)

Coffin Dodger / Keymaster
and I was going to recommend a tennis racket. Looks like he\'s about to return a great serve.

Thanks for all the input folks :)

The chain flail mace thing (whatever) is an awesome idea, but with the absence of one in my bits box, I had to go with sword instead, which looks cool too. I can always change it later, and this is only a little piece for holiday painting, but I am going to collect some more Chaos stunties in the future so chain mace flail thing whatever will be something cool to bear in mind. I\'ll put photos up of him equipped with a sword as soon as my sister brings the frigging camera home ( ) and see what you think.

Cheeeeeers!

I have another mace... it looks like a sort of cage thingy, it\'s from the Kislev weapon sprue. With the absence of a camera I\'ll have to draw you a picture, as I can\'t find anything on Google. Sorry to affront you all with this retarded diagram :D
mace.jpg

Its head is like a metal cylinder, but with curved lateral ribby things. Does anyone know what this mace is called? I\'ll have a look at what it loks like on the dwarf too.

Cheers

~Bill :D
