The problem I\'ve found with eBay.

The people there have a very bad habit of charging more for shipping to make a little extra cash from the auction.
:flame: :mad::flame:

You might as well just go to Forge World.

uhum... [cough]... you only ship within the US.
You could have stated that in you message, that would have saved me the trouble of getting all excited about the opportunity to buy forgeworld stuff without shipping-charges.

This here is tarring everyone with the same brush and is not fair to those of us who are honest. Not everyone charges more on shipping than it costs them. And keep in mind sometimes people have to pay for the cost of packing materials, which aren\'t free. I have both bought and sold on eBay, and I only charge what shipping costs, and in some cases (for special packaging) I add 50 cents or a dollar for special padded envelopes. I\'ve never really gotten ripped on shipping either, but then, I vote with my dollar by not bidding on auctions where I think the shipping is excessive (although in some cases I have found that the \"excessive\" shipping was because they went with someone other than the USPS). Sorry, I get irritated when someone tries to blame an entire comunity for the behavior of some, especially when I am a member of said community and do not take part in the behavior in question. By the way, if a shipping cost isn\'t mentioned in the auction always ask before you bid...

Its not habit, its business...

You know, I really get sick of people saying things like this, so I thought I\'d chime in. Not only is it appropriate to charge handling fees, but it is completely necesary in many cases. It is NOT free to pack and ship things, esp. if you are doing it a lot. Therefore charging for the service is appropriate.

Now some people charge WAAAAAAAAY to much for certain things, and this is just bad business. But, you know what? Don\'t buy from them. They will get the hint, esp. when it hits them in the pocket book.

Moreover, I think that many people forget the entire CONVENIENCE issue that costs oh so LITTLE. Think about it: how much do you get paid for doing your job? Even at $5 an hour, you still would come out ahead if you were charged for shipping b/c you don\'t have to leave your house and travel, spend time looking, or really do anything. It comes to your door. You open it and there it is.

Moreover, you usually get things WAY cheaper (if you shop right) than retail and in many cases don\'t pay sales taxes on items. So, even if you pay more for shipping, you are also saving a ton of money.

How long does it take you to go to your local hobby shop? How much is your time worth? I know people who would spend 2-3 hours to go to some sale that they only save $1-2 on. Aaaaah, how people forget that time is money, and every minute you spend doing something DOES cost.

You should know that in all the stuff i\'ve sold, I have had VERY few complaints about shipping costs (I mean very few, probably 2-3 in over 500+ transactions). This is because people like the fact that I ship immediately and they get their stuff immediately. It is a fair trade, and the handling costs go directly into materials for shipping, labor of packing and delivery (someone has to be paid to do those things...). It is a fair trade.

Usually when I have, the people in question seem to want everything for nothing. They would actually like it if they paid nothnig for the services provided, let alone the product. This is NOT a fair trade.

Just some observations from the other side.

good comments...

I have bought many things on E-bay.

I don\'t think Ebonbudda meant to paint every E-bayer with the same brush, but he has seemed to strike a nerve.

There have been a few times when I thought the shipping was excessive, but then once I received the package, and saw the price of the postage right on the box, I changed my tune.

Of course there have been other times, when I paid a decent sum for shipping, only to have it come third class mail in a crappy unprotected envelope.

Just like in traditional shops, there are good business practitioners, and some that squeeze every dime they can get.

I too vote with my dollar. And, i think it is up to me, as the buyer, to check out which seller is good or not....

I too am a frequent ebay seller. <buy my stuff dammit! :D > I often get e-mails from people saying, \"I\'d buy your mini but your shipping cost is too high.\" I just tell them to have a look at my feedback and see how many people have commented on the quality of my packing as well as my minis. I usually charge 6 bucks to ship a single painted mini within the US. Here\'s the breakdown:

Postage: usually about 2 bucks
6x6x6\" box: about a dollar
Packing Peanuts: probably 50 cents
Big Bubble Bubble wrap: about a dollar
tape: probably a quarter (i\'m tape crazy)
15 mile round trip to the post office: again...about a dollar in gas at $1.40 a gallon (22mpg)

My net profit: about a quarter...damn right...its MINE!
If people quit bitching at good sellers: PRICELESS! :bouncy:

Ok, so I\'m estimating all my prices, and truth is there are probably packages I manage to eek out a dollar profit on. There are also packages that I mis-calculate weight on or have to use a bigger box or more packaging material (TAPE!!!!) than I had planned and I lose money.

Just my thoughts...Dungeontrader...just wait \'til I get some money, I\'ma exploit the hell outta that free shipping! :D
